The App Thread
I've done the searches and found nothing, so I thought I'd create a thread dedicated to apps. Figured I'd put it in the library, as apps are as much media as they are anything else. Ground rules for this thread are simple (and for QPs, Os, WOs, NCOs and people with more posts than me, entirely optional): tell us about your favorite apps. What do you use them for, what platform do you run them on and how much do they cost?
I'll start. Platform: IPod touch/IPhone Category: Language 1) Al-Jazeera (Arabic) live This app allows me to watch a live stream of Al-Jazeera on my Ipod. It also gives me access to headlines and articles in both Arabic and English. It's great practice for people with advanced levels of MSA (for me, I struggle to get basic meaning). Price? Free. 2) Arabic Audio Flashcards These are exactly what they say they are. I'm using the free trial version right now, seems pretty good. Not sure if they're worth the $25 or so for the full version. Category: Army 1) Army PRT It's the Army's workout guidelines. It has videos of various exercises, instructions for the APFT, and workout schedules based on three phases ("toughening" "sustaining" and "reconditioning"). Free. 2) Army- Creeds Simple enough, though the lack of SF creed stands out. Free 3) Nike+ Waiting for the snow to melt so I can start running with my Nikes and use this, but it seems like the perfect companion for getting in running shape. Cost is free once you buy the sensor. Category: Other 1) Angry Birds Seasons Damn, those are some pissed off birds. $0.99 |
