18X not the best way to SF?

A friend of mine is a Ranger and I talked to him about what he thought about 18X. He said it's just a good way for the Army to get infantry because even if you make it through the selection course you won't be selected because you don't have any experience. Is this more or less true? And if so would it be wise to go Ranger first the try to go through selection. Or even re-enlisted after Ranger as 18X? I am just trying to explore which avenue would make me as competent as possibly. I would like to end by saying thank you in advance for your responses and your service. Your dedication is inspirational.

You probably should read the rules and stickies, since you appear to have missed them. Do not post again here till you have done so.

I would also recommend that you use the Search button in the upper right hand corner and do a lot more reading before asking any additional questions.

Search "A Message to Garcia" for some specific guidance you may find of value.

There's a button in the upper right side of the screen between the CALENDAR and FAQ buttons - it is titled SEARCH - use it and you would be surprised at the tremendous amount of useful information on this topic which is already in existence in this web-site.

Gutes lesen.

And so it goes...

N is for knowledge or not so much...

bverz:

There are quite a few former 18X's who are SF qualified soldiers serving, many of whom visit this very board.

As has been previously suggested, more reading less posting.

YOU make you competent, not the path you choose to tread. If you want to know about SF, ask SF soldiers. (Or, better yet, thoroughly peruse an SF site such as this.) If you want to know about Rangers (etc.), ask a Ranger (etc.).

Sounds like the stories we used to tell "SF Wannabee's" when I was a Tabbed E-4 in Ranger BN. Brothers, NOTHING ever changes.

bver, one question for you and your RGR Buddy: Did he attend SFAS? If so it sounds like he was a non select. if not then he has no clue about SFAS.

Ask him his opinion on BUDS, I'm sure he is well versed on their selection process as well.

Ambush Master, was that friend of yours who got the MOH Sgt. Maj. Franklin Miller?

Ambush Master 11-14-2012 08:41

Doug was a friend of mine and was @ CCC (Kontum) while I was there, along with Bob Howard my CO. Jon Cavaiani and I went through the then Phase 1 together, both as 18Xs.
