Intellectual Honesty Not Allowed at National Public Radio

Surprising. I thought NPR would first try reeducation instead of excommunication.

NPR Ends Williams' Contract After Muslim Remarks

NPR News has terminated the contract of longtime news analyst Juan Williams after remarks he made on the Fox News Channel about Muslims.

Williams appeared Monday on The O'Reilly Factor, and host Bill O'Reilly asked him to comment on the idea that the U.S. is facing a dilemma with Muslims.

O'Reilly has been looking for support for his own remarks on a recent episode of ABC's The View in which he directly blamed Muslims for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg walked off the set in the middle of his appearance.

Williams responded: "Look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

Williams also warned O'Reilly against blaming all Muslims for "extremists," saying Christians shouldn't be blamed for Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.

But strong criticism followed Williams' comments.

Late Wednesday night, NPR issued a statement praising Williams as a valuable contributor but saying it had given him notice that it is severing his contract. "His remarks on The O'Reilly Factor this past Monday were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR," the statement read.

Williams' presence on the largely conservative and often contentious prime-time talk shows of Fox News has long been a sore point with NPR News executives.

His status was earlier shifted from staff correspondent to analyst after he took clear-cut positions about public policy on television and in newspaper opinion pieces.

Reached late Wednesday night, Williams said he wasn't ready to comment and was conferring with his wife about the episode.

Even O'Reilly was angry about this. He said that even though Williams is a liberal, he is a respected journalist and should be allowed to give an honest opinion. O'Reilly said that the head of NPR should resign...

Saw the article!

NPR = socialism, not liberalism. The left-wing desires to "control" the media, not just report.

How do you say ultra left wing? NPR.....

BTW when I see muslims, on an airplane, "identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims," I don't get nervous, I pick and choose which needs to go first.....;)

"I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country," Williams said.

I can't help but find some irony in the fact that a lib who has made a career out of denying conservatives the right to state their opinions freely because of PC is now caught in the same trap and hoist on his own petard.

Maybe there is karma and justice after all.

NPR is enforcing Sharia. It's that simple.

Recent article in Commentary Magazine covered "Rushdie Rules" (those rules extrapolated from the the Ayatollah's fatwa against Rushdie).

For more information on Sharia Law, please read RELIANCE OF THE TRAVELLER, sections:

r1.0 THE IMPORTANCE OF HOLDING ONE'S TONGUE (page 729).

r2.0 SLANDER (page 730)

and specifically:

r2.6 (2) "Do you know what slander is?"
They answered, "allah and his messenger know best."
He said, "It is to mention of your brother that which he would dislike."
Someone asked, "What if he is as I say he is?"
And he replied, " If he is as you say, you have slandered him, and if not, you have calumniated him."

r2.6 (3) "The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim. He does not betray him, lie to him, or hang back from his aid.
All of the muslim is inviolable to his fellow muslim; his reputation, his property, his blood.
Godfearingness is here [N: pointing to his heart].
It is sufficiently wicked for someone to belittle his fellow muslim."

Wonder if those bitches at The View walked off the set in protest. Yeah, I heard Whoooooopi was defending him which is fine with me, I don't blame Mr. Williams for being honest...I just find it ironic since O'Reilly was looking for support as mentioned in the article.

Juan Williams and the Meaning of Bigotry

Oct 21 2010, 12:01 PM ET 224

I am startled by the news that NPR has sacked Juan Williams, apparently for saying this on The O'Reilly Factor:

I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.

If you've read his books or listened to much of his commentary on Fox or NPR, you know that Williams is not a bigot. That is something that the bloggers celebrating his firing ought to notice. But do his comments, taken in isolation, deserve to be condemned? I don't think so. Williams was not expressing hatred or intolerance of Muslims. He was confessing to the kind of anxiety that I suspect many and possibly most Americans feel. (Watch the body language in the departure lounge.) He was acknowledging a sad reality.

Jesse Jackson once said,

There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved....

I don't think that made Jackson a bigot, either. If we want the charge to retain its sting, as we should, we ought to use it cautiously. It needs to mean something worse than ordinary human weakness. Show me some malice. (The remarks that led to Helen Thomas's forced retirement would qualify.) If what Williams said was bigoted, then this is a nation of bigots, and the term no longer means anything.

Williams is an excellent, open-minded commentator and a great loss to NPR. I think the decision to sack him was shameful.

and this from a network that is supposed to be the "unbiased" solution to sensationalist talk show nuts like the evil Limbaugh and the Demonic Hannity...

Why didnt these same news folk' loose their lunch over "JJ" years ago when he offered this little tidbit:
Quote:

There is nothing more painful to me … than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved. — the Reverend Jesse Jackson, as quoted in US News, 3/10/96
not that I give a shit.... I dont listen to that thinly veiled liberal drivel that NPR peddles anyway

I prefer the radical right wing nut job hate speech that you hear on Fox.

NEO (new) is the piece that's missing from the quote.

And a NEO-liberal is a liberal who has been mugged by reality, but refuses to press charges.

Neo-C was not a term used in Rizzo's day. It refers to the Liberal Jews who defected in recent years.

Pat

ETA: It does seem to date back to the '70s, but I don't remember ever hearing it (and I worked in television back then). BTW, Rizzo was a democrat.

Ain't that the truth... Sharia - no freedom of speech, no freedom of thought, and no freedom of the press. Sharia enforcement is the basis for every demand that groups like CAIR make on our society.

The NPR dhimmis are pawns, facilitating Sharia enforcement whether they realize it or not...

I don't understand why Hamas-linked Muslim Brotherhood CAIR are even given legitimacy
