Sheepdog?

A Teacher who didn't run inside, lock the door and wait for police to arrive.

"Teacher tackles gunman supected in school shooting"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100224/...FjaGVydGFja2w-

"...Benke told a TV station that he took part in drills after Columbine and recalled thinking that if the same thing happened, "I hope that I could go after him."

Investigators said Eastwood visited the school previously and was inside shortly before the shooting. He is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday and may face at least two counts of attempted murder......."

Once again "suspected". The story says the gunman was shooting, the teacher tackled him but still just the suspect. Oh, well.

I watched this on the Denver news and was surprised the msm didn't pick up the story live while the school was being locked down. Finally a teacher who did what had to be done to protect the kids.

I was surprised to not hear about it until this morning. Don't watch much TV these days but still, I thought I would have heard something. On a side note, a local car dealership figured the least it could do is donate a 2010 Subaru Outback to the teacher as a token of appreciation.

I was glad to hear that what could have turned into a really bad situation was cut short. Thankfully there are those that act instead of cower when the chips are down. Great job by the teacher!

I was surprised to hear the attacker was an adult. Sad to say I expected it to be a student.

This does not speak well of our society. Entrances to schools are going to begin looking like the up-armored McDonalds drive through window in some major cities.

As for Benke, he said he still wishes he could have done: "It bugs me that he got another round off" before Benke tackled him to the ground.
He seems to have the right attitude...

Who thinks we need to start arming a select group of teachers?

Active Shooter incidents are on the rise (workplace, office, school, malls, military bases). Unfortunately the public only recognizes these events by the casualty count, not the number of times they are attempted throughout the year.

Absolutely, though it may not register with the US news annual best high schools report, perhaps we should consider this feature.

1) school prepares kids for college or workforce

and a close second

2) school has SF trained teacher or principal on staff
