Makes more sense than panhandling in Bonnie Doone, unless the neighborhoods have changed since last I was there...

I think Fayetteville passed a city ordinance making panhandling an offense.

Still see it, but much less.

I read a story onetime about a panhandler who walked through Grand Central Station in New York City everyday and simply asked people for money. On a good day he could take in $500.00

Easy money for someone who has no sense of pride.

At the MLK North & Bragg Blvd light, MLK North & Ramsey light and Yadkin & Skibo light.

Just in case you want to check out some of the local Uban Outdoorsmen.

Was at the Food Lion on Bragg Blvd and a guy that had to weigh at least 400 lbs came up to me looking for some money. He had a little girl, 4/5ish, with him.

It was all I could do to keep from busting out laughing. He's going on in his most hangdog act while she's holding his hand, with a giant smile on her face mouthing the words he was saying. She was keeping right up with him so she must have heard it at least a few times.

There used to be one guy that would always walk from Hardee's in Aberdeen to the Food Lion there on US one, have'nt seen him in a while, but he used to go to downtown Southern Pines as well. Anyhow, that same guy lived two houses down from my Grandmother and always had a fairly new Cadillac changed out every couple of years.

I have my "retirement job" corner all picked out. At least I'll do better than a guy beside a freeway on-ramp here last year. He looked about 35ish and had a sign saying "Viet Nam vet needs work. Anything will help."

Always trying to be helpful, I rolled down my window and told him he should change that to "Gulf War vet" - and went on my way.

I used to work in downtown Phoenix, rode the bus in from the 'burbs, and walked the 3/4 mile to work from the bus stop. I'd get hit up at least 5 times each way - usually more in the a.m. (especially during warm Phoenix months). I never gave anyone any $$. Offered to take a couple to the Burger King by MEPS and buy 'em something (always refused). Well, I did give a guy a buck once. He said, "I ain't gonna lie to you, I need some money for beer." Honesty should be rewarded.:D
