Obama Thesis Surfaces...

Well, only 10 pages of it were made available to Joe Klein (Time).

Here's a quote worth investigating...

"... the Constitution allows for many things, but what it does not allow is the most revealing.
The so-called Founders did not allow for economic freedom.
While political freedom is supposedly a cornerstone of the document,
the distribution of wealth is not even mentioned.
While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty,
it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy."
- Barack Obama

I don't think that leaves too much more for the imagination as to what his true feelings, I mean contempt he has for this country and it's form of Government.....

God help us.

He apparently has contempt for the Founders, and is well-versed in Orwellian doublespeak; economic freedom actually means wealth distribution.

I've been waiting to hear more about the feelings Barack has for the country for awhile now. Ironically it's when deployed to Iraq that I have the most time to research on what's been going on in the country. Thank all of you who contribute to The Soapbox. It's far easier to find credible resources here than anywhere else I look where I have to drudge through the opinionated/fallacious/ill-informed muck to get to such good articles.

Back on topic though. I'm worried about a future in which the leader of the free world hates the freedom he's supposed to defend and despises the foundations of which he was created; democracy and capitalism.

Long live the Republic.

Fascinating reading, COL. Warrior-Mentor. Thank you.

I wonder if the POTUS will use the current economic crisis to institute long-term modifications to our economic system.

If we suppose, purely for the purposes of discussion, that a double-dip recession is in the cards, and that the economy will get a great deal worse, then his ideas about wealth redistribution might find support. That's troubling.

It's a hoax according to this:

http://pajamasmedia.com/michaelledee...a-thesis-hoax/

Quote:

It’s a hoax, or a satire, depending on your point of view. Joe Klein has said that he never read any part of an Obama “thesis” from his Columbia days, and that’s conclusive, as far as I’m concerned.

The hoax/satire was written in August, so it’s not connected to any current event. I cam across it on Twitter, read the blog, found it interesting, and posted on it. I failed to notice that one of the tags was “satire.”

So he got me, and lots of others. It worked because it’s plausible. I’ve done satirical pieces myself, and I know how they can take off. I once wrote one that said that Bill Casey did not die, and was hiding in a bunker under the St Andrews golf course from which he was running Mikhail Gorbachev. I thought it was obviously satirical, but it went like wildfire all over the world. And that was in the days before the Internet.

So I should have picked up some hint, but I didn’t. Shame on me.

I’m posting this as quickly as possible. Apologies to the president and to Joe Klein, and to Rush Limbaugh, who had many very wise things to say about the Constitution and the views of the Founders today, and to everyone else who got involved.

But did he say these things in his undergraduate thesis? From the source you cite.
Quote:

The thing is, Obama did say these things. Maybe not in his thesis, we'll never know.
So basically, we can interpolate what a person may have said at one point based upon what the person said decades later. This approach may make for good political theater in the blogosphere but I don't agree that the practice is intellectually sustainable. YMMV.

The nature of his thinking is easily exposed.

(1) He refers to the "so-called founders", nothing so-called about it, they were the founders.
(2) "Poitical Freedom is supposedly a cornerstone", NO, it is the corner stone.
(3) From the teachings/writings of the Founder Fathers, their views on commerse and banking, "Distribution of Wealth" is implied, to each of us to make our own success with limited Government in our lives.

A course paper or thesis?

Quote:

Sources first differed on whether he wrote his senior thesis on Soviet nuclear disarmament[5] or the North-South debate on trade and the "new international economic order"[6]. Later, it emerged that he had not really written an official thesis at all: students were not required to do so at the time, and what was considered his "thesis" was really a long seminar paper. Obama wrote his for Prof. Baron's American Foreign Policy class. A search has been launched[7] for a copy of the paper, which was confirmed to have been on the topic of Soviet disarmament. Baron, Obama's de facto "thesis" advisor, is now retired to Florida, and claims to have lost his copy of the paper in a move some time ago.

Quote:

His former professor, Michael Baron, recalled in an interview with NBC News that Obama easily aced the year-long class. Baron described the paper as a “thesis” or “senior thesis” in several interviews, and said that Obama spent a year working on it. Baron recalls that the topic was nuclear negotiations with the Soviet Union.

“My recollection is that the paper was an analysis of the evolution of the arms reduction negotiations between the Soviet Union and the United States,” Baron said in an e-mail. “At that time, a hot topic in foreign policy circles was finding a way in which each country could safely reduce the large arsenal of nuclear weapons pointed at the other … For U.S. policy makers in both political parties, the aim was not disarmament, but achieving deep reductions in the Soviet nuclear arsenal and keeping a substantial and permanent American advantage. As I remember it, the paper was about those negotiations, their tactics and chances for success. Barack got an A.”

An influencing work of the times for many - including BHO and his fellow Occidental College friend and Columbia roommate.

And so it goes...;)
