Anyone looking to trade a language?
Anyone headed to the course and interested in arabic? I think I could squeak by if I had to but my score on the DLAB was a bare bones 95 and I would be more comfortable with a lower tier. Any superstars out there looking to rise to the arabic challenge with a 95 or better shoot me a line. If not I'll be suckin it up lol. Thanks.

Hmmm...The DLAB only tests a "singular ability" to "learn a language"... It does not test one's fortitude and ability to "adapt and overcome" and accomplish what is needed. They gave you that language for a reason and they figured you could handle it...
One of my buddies scored an 82 on the DLAB... He is a 2+ 2+ 2 on his DLPT in Mandarin Sorry, just my penny on this subject |
Stop worrying about your DLAB score. Only bureaucrats in the Army think it's indicative of anything, let alone ability to learn a foreign language. Exercise self-discipline, diligently study the material you're given in the course, and you'll do just fine. Blow it off, fail to demonstrate motivation and discipline, slack off with poor study habits, etc., and you can serve your country in another capacity, probably as an 11B somewhere.
Do the best you can because failure isn't a surviveable option. For those of you following this thread - language training is critical and it's going to get worse. I interact daily with USASFC(A)'s Language Program Manager. SWCS is caught between a rock (reality) and a hard place (**** perceptions about what language ability and cultural awareness really mean). Really smart, dedicated guys are having to say "yes sir, yes sir, three bags full", and try to meet impossible expectations. It's eventually going to lead to a complete revamp of how we look at and train languages. I've seen the writing on the wall and it isn't pretty. "Nuff said. |
