Could someone PM me the name of the guy pinning on the wings? He looks familiar but not sure due to the angle of the picture.

The E5-SGT with the pillow,, a red beret with a 10th SF flash??

How does that work?? Is it the new candy-stripe for non-tab'd??

Yup that is basically a candy-stripe in the new world. Makes a lot more sense to me.

The Flash is worn by all that are airborne qualified. SF wears the GB, Airborne Qualified support wears the Maroon Baret.... Flash only now means your unit not SFQC Quals.... Tab replaced the flash quals....

Assigned to Group: gets you the Group Flash.

Not SF: gets you the Maroon Beret.

He's a support guy. Could be assigned to Sig Det, MI Det, HHC (any support MOS).

"It was the early morning hours of May 30, 2007, as the 11-man Special Forces team crept silently through their target’s village. They had achieved total surprise after conducting the first ever combat standoff military freefall insertion of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Every person in the village was sound asleep.

The team, Operational Detachment – Alpha 074 (ODA 074), Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), jumped into the Ninewah Province, north of the Iraqi Sinjar Mountain, with the intent to capture a suspected terrorist with ties to trafficking counterfeit U.S. currency. They also had plans to disrupt a criminal network supporting the movement and funding of foreign fighters, weapons and equipment funneled into Iraq.

The mission was designed to take the enemy completely by surprise, which is exactly what it did, said Master Sgt. John D. Addlemen, the ODA 074 team sergeant.

Even in the early planning stages, Addlemen and his team had a large obstacle to overcome. The suspected terrorists his team was after had implemented a robust early warning network, taking advantage of their remote location, and thus giving them the ability to escape or destroy evidence within minutes. The root of the problem was penetrating that network.

The proposed solution was a stealthy infiltration which would deny the enemies the opportunity to escape or tamper with evidence.

This prompted the team’s leadership to regard military freefall, or MFF, as the best option in overcoming the early warning system. A joint U.S.-Iraqi quick reaction force would provide ground assault support for the jump team."

e. A bronze service star is authorized to be worn on all degrees of the Military Free Fall Parachutist Badge to denote
a Soldier’s participation in a combat parachute jump. Orders are required to confirm award of this badge. A Soldier’s
combat parachute jump credit is tied directly to the assault landing credit (see para 7–25) decision for the unit to which
the Soldier is assigned or attached at the time of the assault landing. Should a unit be denied air assault credit, no air
assault credit for purpose of this badge will accrue to the individual Soldiers of that unit. Each Soldier must physically
exit the aircraft to receive combat parachute jump credit and the Military Free Fall Parachutist Badge with bronze
service star. (See para 6–8 for further information on the bronze service star.)
