Sounds like something similar to the $250 stimulus money that Social Security recipients are receiving.

VA Sending $250 Stimulus Checks to Eligible Veterans
Friday June 26, 2009

Some 1.9 million U.S. veterans and eligible beneficiaries will be getting $250 economic stimulus checks between June 22 and June 30, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

A provision of President Obama’s economic recovery plan, the $250 checks will go to those VA beneficiaries who have received VA’s compensation, pension, dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC), or spina bifida benefits at any time between November 2008 and January 2009. Beneficiaries receiving the checks must reside within the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

No Action Necessary: The VA stresses that veterans and eligible beneficiaries need take no action in order to get the $250 checks. VA used its existing payment records to determine eligibility for the $250 payment. Beneficiaries will receive their payments the same way they receive their monthly VA benefits -- either by direct deposit or in the mail.

According to the VA, the one-time, $250 payment is tax-free. VA beneficiaries who also receive benefits from the Social Security Administration or Railroad Retirement Board will be paid through those agencies, and will therefore not receive the payment from VA.

Now that we veterans are receiving stimulus money, are we expected to submit to federal oversight and manipulation?
