President Obama Announces Appointments to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships


Washington, DC – Today, President Obama appointed 28 members to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. This accomplished group of citizens representing a broad range of backgrounds, interests, and professions are responsible for recommending a group of exceptional men and women to the President for selection as White House Fellows. The commission will be chaired by John Phillips, a partner at Phillips and Cohen Law Firm. Cheryl Dorsey, President of Echoing Green, will vice-chair the commission. "The men and women of this commission embody what makes the White House Fellows program so special," said President Obama. "These leaders are diverse, non-partisan, and committed to mentoring our next generation of public servants. I'm confident that they will select a class of White House Fellows that demonstrate extraordinary leadership, strong character, and a deep commitment to serving their country."

The White House Fellowship is America’s most prestigious program for leadership and public service, providing young individuals with experience working at the highest levels of the federal government. Fellows also participate in an education program consisting of roundtable discussions with renowned leaders from the private and public sectors and complete service activities throughout the year. Alumni of this non-partisan program include former Secretary of State General Colin Powell, retired U.S. Army General Wesley Clark, and author Doris Kearns Goodwin.

"The White House Fellows program is so important as it allows for a variety of perspectives to come together to offer expertise and experience on important policy issues and then these Fellows carry what they’ve learned back to their own communities to benefit Americans far outside the walls of the White House," said First Lady Michelle Obama.

The Commission will convene this week in Washington, DC to select the 2009-2010 class of White House Fellows. The Commission will select 11 to 19 fellows from among the 30 chosen as national finalists; more than one thousand people applied for the class.

I understand the prestige and importance of such a program.

Unfortunately, I could not accept the job and work in close proximity to people I find as morally reprehensible and ethically repugnant as the current POTUS and his toadies.

If I was in close contact, I fear that I might feel my duties to the Constitution and the nation conflicting with my loyalites to the Commander in Chief, and then there would be trouble.

I do know people who have worked in that sort of job, and I know that it is an honor to be chosen, I just couldn't accept such a position under this POTUS.

On 1st pass, I would agree 100% with you. I could never work with the current crowd in the WH.

On 2nd pass,, I look at the opportunity to interject change and correct the misguided liberals interpretation of the world.

There is nothing like a good fight,, and taking it to the enemy's front door make it even better.. :D

You've gotta learn the system before you're able to influence and ultimately change it. It's why Colin Powell took the White House Fellowship and the OMB job - so he could learn to move the money - which is really how Generals influence things in DC.

I am learning things are not what you see on cable TV. Have had some chances for some frank discussions with people on the hill in and out of the office and I hope to have provided perspectives they hadn't considered.

As for TR, there are quotes from Sun Tsu and the Godfather that come to mind that might help you get through the year. ;)

That may be true.

I just don't see any of the characters in the current administration caring to listen to anything a military officer has to say.

There is also the matter that the first time Rahm Emanuel or one of the other staffers was disrespectful and told me to go fuck myself, I would probably be a big embarrassment to everyone because I would do my very best to beat his skinny ass and teach him a lesson his Daddy should have.

But that's just me.

My wife refuses to even put in for a white house TOUR now. :D I can only imagine how enthusiastically she'd support my trying for a WH FELLOWSHP.

I think, rhetorically, the Col is looking at the fact that even if you wear the a tu-tu,, it is "Over-Kill" and the PC crowd would claim victory by the omnipotent one.. :D:D:D

And then there'd be a push to get another damn assault weapons Bill through Congress requiring all SF/SOF to register their hands. Thanks a lot! :rolleyes:
