A friend of mine has a chance to purchase this for around $800. Can anyone tell me anything (good or bad) about this particular build and does this sound like a good price?

The Oly clones are not the best quality.
Even if they run, they are not to MILSPEC, and parts from other manufacturers will frequently not fit. The price could be okay, if you are in a hurry and cannot find another brand. I would want to test fire it before closing the deal. Personally, I would get on the RRA or LMT list down at your local dealer's and wait a little while for a MILSPEC weapon of proven quality. TR |
AR15 build question
I'm thinking of buying an AR15 kit and other parts from either M&A parts or Model 1 parts. From their websites they seem to be offering mil-spec parts such as ER Shaw barrels and mil-spec uppers and lowers. I'm also considering STAG, Bushmaster, Armalite, Del-ton, RRA, and MidwayUSA but these sources seem to be more expensive. Comments and recommendations would be welcomed. Thanks.

I have had a couple purchases on AR15 and a sale or two, and have no problems. I haven't seen many complaints on there, but you still need to be cautious. Another source, AIM Surplus had some Daniel Defense Ar's last week |
just a friendly tip.
gymguy.
In my short, and very informative, time here I have learned a couple of lessons about how to get around effectively on this site. I would recommend doing a search on AR's on this site and others before posting such a general question. There is a pretty incredible primer on assault rifles that you will find here without much effort. Beyond that, there are likely hundreds more threads that have already answered your question to at least some extent. Out. |

Thanks to all.

I'd say for $800, tell him to snap it up.

I agree. Any AR is better than no AR, especially given the current administrations policy towards "assault rifles". I picked up an oly arms AR15 for $625 from a young man who was leaving for the Navy. I believe this was in Jan. of this year.

Oly arms is hit or miss...
Watch what you buy, like TR said a test fire would be ideal. I purchased a lower from there shop in Olympia, WA years ago when I trusted folks enough to not nitpuck over small stuff. Later on when trying to install the buttstock there were a few Large burrs in the receiver that made the process less than desireable, so I traded it at a gun show for a MEGA lower (very nice). There lower parts are rough compaired to others as well. I have been told there barrels are nice, but I noticed that on 3 out of 4 showroom models, the front sight posts were off center by no less than 2 mm, and that to me was unacceptable. My 2 cents.
Call CDNN sports, they have AR's in stock right now good brands such as Colt, Smith and Wesson, Bushmaster and a few others. Some of the best deals you will find here is there number: 800-588-9500. Buy with confidence, they have taken much of my allowance for promptly delivered goodies! |
