Glock mag discovery

Gents,
Thought I would share this. I put my glock 23(40mm) high cap mag in my glock 19(9mm) loaded 21 rounds of 9mm and fired control 2 round DT. I was amazed that through out the course the weapon did not mis fire or jam. I didnt realize this until I arrive at my quarters and started cleaning and realized my mag was sticking out of the mag well. Upon closer inspection I made the discovery. Maybe not news for you all but it is for me.

Also if you take the Glock 23 barrel out and replace it with a Sig 357 barrel. You can load the Glock mag with 357 and fire through the glock and it will not jam or misfire. Dam I love this shit!

Larfive - The barrel trick works because the case head of .40 S&W is the same as the case head of the .357 Sig. The .357 being basically a .40 S&W case necked down to 9mm.

If you got 21 rounds of 9x19 into a single Glock 23 mag, Gaston Glock would like to talk to you and I would like to buy you a beer.

The barrel change thing is common knowledge and was designed that way. The .357 SIG is a necked down .40 S&W case. Occasionally, mags will be problematic when swapping out due to the shorter full width case section of the .357, but feeding should be more positive due to the bottleneck case.

People have been buying the 10 round .40 mags for the Beretta 96 and loading 14 rounds of 9mm in them for a while now...

Being that I work for a place where people buy said ten round .40 mags for use in a 9mm and then return them because they do not always function properly, I highly recommend extensive firing of any magazine being used in such a way. If I am going to be carrying a weapon that my life may depend on, I do not want anything "Southern Engineered" on that weapon. Only the best magazines and parts that money can buy that are made specifically for that particular weapon.

It's a neat trick, But I would reserve it's use to the gun range and be sure that the magazines are marked so as not to be confused with carry mags.

I didn't say that it was a particularly good idea, I said that people have been doing something similar to what the first poster discovered for a while now.

I think it's understood that this process is not guaranteed in any way, shape, or form.

Thanks for relating your experience, though.

TR,

I stand corrected it was 18 rounds. Pushups done and I owe you a beer. By the way I have shot over 2k rounds and not one jam.
Thanks for the reality check.:)

Understand and noted. I couldnt agree with you more. However, since firing some many rounds in IDPA scenarios, I dont see the harm in taking it as an extra.

If it works, then I see no reason not to use it in IDPA or other games of the sort.

The only problem with using Glock 40 cal mags in a Glock 9mm is that if you leave the mags loaded all the time. Over the course of 6-9 months the lips on the magazine will start to spread/ seperate and cause double feeds.
