IMHO the best St Patrick's Day movie is on right now. Turner Classic Movie Channel.

I love that movie! John Wayne is just... well he is John Wayne! And Maureen O'Hara is one of my favorite leading ladies!

BTW Am I the only one who consistently sees TR as John Wayne. I know it is just his avatar, but in my minds eye... that is what he looks like :)

It's a great movie...good characters, excellent story.

I'm just leaving work and don't have cable - but I do have the DVD and will watch it as soon as I get home!

You don't really see functional alcoholics in movies much anymore. :D

Got it on DVD as well. Of course, Boondock Saints play right after.

Quiet Man Bridge
 

A few years ago I had the chance to see the "Quitre Man Bridge" in Ireland. There is only a small road sign pointing out the bridge. Beyond the bridge is a very small hamlet of just a few houses. The "village " scenes were filmed in another town.

The bridge looks exactly as it does in the movie; a great movie at that!

One of my favorite movies of all time. John Ford was a genius and a patriot, they don't make people like that anymore.

Another great Irish flavored movie is Gentleman Jim with Errol Flynn. It's about James J. Corbett and John L Sullivan. It was made in 1942. "Shake the hand what shook the world" is the famous line in the movie which is attributed John L Sullivan.

I love this movie!


Sequel supposedly to be released later this year...


That and the entire scene when Maureen O'Hara is talking to the priest about "the sex". :D

I've always wanted a translation on that, just because the body language was so incredible. :eek:

Another bit of trivia that I found on IMDB:

At the film's conclusion, after the credits, we see Kate and Sean standing in their garden waving good-bye. Maureen O'Hara turns to John Wayne and whispers something in his ear, evoking a priceless reaction from Wayne. What was said was known only to O'Hara, Wayne and director John Ford. In exchange for saying this unscripted bit of text, O'Hara insisted that the exact line never be disclosed by any involved parties. In her memoirs she says that she refused to say the line at first as she 'couldn't possibly say that to Duke' but Ford insisted, claiming he needed a genuine shock reaction from Wayne. The line remains a mystery to this day.
