How about a complaint to Yahoo for a violation of their TOS? TR |
Generally, if one looks at the headers in an e-mail, the IP address of the originating machine is included. That should indicate the ISP for the user, as well as the city.
Here's a sample of the headers you want: Delivered-To: ****.****@gmail.com Received: by **.***.**.*** with SMTP id b7cs92126ibd; Sun, 8 Feb 2009 00:09:36 -0800 (PST) Received: by **.***.**.*** with SMTP id v4mr2021158ybb.161.1234080576015; Sun, 08 Feb 2009 00:09:36 -0800 (PST) Return-Path: <iomega@rm.iomega.com> Received: from bmrm4.iomega.com (bmrm4.iomega.com [147.178.1.154]) by mx.google.com with SMTP id 3si10551262gxk.74.2009.02.08.00.09.35; Sun, 08 Feb 2009 00:09:36 -0800 (PST) Received-SPF: pass (google.com: domain of iomega@rm.iomega.com designates 147.178.1.154 as permitted sender) client-ip=147.178.1.154; Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=pass (google.com: domain of iomega@rm.iomega.com designates 147.178.1.154 as permitted sender)smtp.mail=iomega@rm.iomega.com Received: from wilde (rm [147.178.8.120]) by bmrm4.iomega.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3CFBE2570 for <****.****@gmail.com>; Sun, 8 Feb 2009 08:09:34 +0000 (UTC) Message-ID: <7432810.1234080574241.JavaMail.iomega@rm.iomega.c om> Date: Sun, 8 Feb 2009 08:09:34 +0000 (UTC) From: Iomega <iomega@rm.iomega.com> Notice the orange line; the 147.178.1.154 is the IP address. Next go to http://samspade.org/. Put the IP address in the Whois box, and you will see contact information for the ISP. Please feel free to use the example; it is Iomega, the hard drive maker. My apologies if this is superfluous info. |
My mistake, that spammer scum came from Senegal, Dakar Afrinic. And we will be banning that entire IP range. (see below)

But, she said I could earn millions helping her smuggle the family fortune out of country! All she needed was my bank account number and a major credit card. Damn! Another fortune lost. Anyone got a really nasty virus to send back? TR |
I worked with an officer who met this attractive woman through a dating website. Turns out she was working with a an organization in Nigeria and had her money stolen. She needed $4,000 to pay some medical bills and get back to the United States.
The officer was insistant that he should send his money to her. We convinced him otherwise. Also: This officer is no longer with us. Not surprising considering his decision making ability. |

Darn it! I didn't get the message... and I really wanted to give all my personal financial information to a complete stranger over the internet too. I can't believe that people actually fall for those emails... but they do. There was an entire special on 60 Minutes or Dateline (or the like) a while back about how these operations work and people who had been suckered by them. YET even with all the publicity about what a hoax these emails are, people still buy into them. |
