Slate Article Calling SERE "Torture school"

This guy is a former marine who is calling for SERE to be closed because it is "teaching" soldiers how to torture:

http://www.slate.com/id/2210059/

I said "former marine" and that's what I meant to say.

I am of the vintage that did not automatically go to SERE school after the Q, but this article is stupidity at it's heights.

Former candy-ass is more like it......

SERE is not supposed to be fun and games. This is what happens when you place "children" (at the time he was a baby Lt) in a man's school. I hope the Marines take away his "Man-card".

Cancel Water-Boarding 101
The military should close its torture school. I know because I graduated from it.

Wouldn't the author have been required to sign a non disclosure agreement before attending SERE?

Surgicalcric 01-30-2009 17:09

5 minutes...thats all I need with this tool...

I am sure I can convince him that his view of what torture is isnt reality...

rubberneck:

Yes he would have signed a NDA prior to attending SERE...

So in addition to writing a poorly constructed article he also broke the law. At least he has that going for him. I have never attended SERE or even served for that matter but only a fool who doesn't understand history couldn't recognize the need for such a program.

If water-boarding is torture, then why are we still doing it to U.S. servicemen? Yes, enlistment in the units that attend SERE is a voluntary act, but must it entail the signing away of basic human rights? The question is especially pertinent because America's enemies haven't used SERE's techniques of "mind control" since the Korean War.
I guess when Col. Rowe reconfigured the SERE program he had to talk to some Korean War vets as his experience as a POW in a Vietnamese camp for five years was insufficient to teach him what was needed in SERE training. According to the author, the Vietnamese did not use “mind control” techniques on our prisoners of war. I’m sure there are a few ex POW's around, namely McCain, who would love to discuss this subject with this former marine.

The Vietnamese used mind control look at what they did to Jane Fonda. She was one of them and we have the pictures to prove it. ;)

Typical weak minded person. Some one probably hurt his feelings at camp.

Just another reason SOF should be the ones that go.......
