Savage Rifles
Does anyone have any experience with Savage Rifles? I am looking to purchase a .308 bolt action rifle and there is a heavy barrelled savage that looks like it may just fit the bill. Also in the running is the Tikka T3 "Varmint" I have handled both rifles and they are both quite nice for their price range. I'll most likely be using the rifle for target shooting and the occasional hunt. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Air,
I have a Savage 10FLP. In .308 win. (The one Major Plaster desgined for Savage) I bought it before Savage started putting there accu triggers in there guns. The action is stiff and the factory trigger sucked. I had a good gunsmith try and rework the bolt to make it some-what smooth but it still rattles when you load or slide the bolt. Once it is seated it is solid as a rock. The trigger pull was in excess of 14 lbs. I don't know what it broke at but it maxed out our scale at 14 lbs and still didn't break. I changed the trigger to an after market I got from Brownells. It shoots fine now. Last and the best group I have ever shot with it was 3 inch group at 500 meters with 0 wind. Bottom line I think it is a good rifle for the price |
Want to sell it?

On second thought don't answer that. |
I have a Savage rifle that I use on duty as LE sniper with a sharpshooter trigger, McMillan A2 stock(woodland camo), scope base and rings are Precision Reflex topped with SuperSniper 10x42 scope outstanding weapon now, but at first a problem child as the standard stock on a Savage became flimsy after a few rounds causing my group to open, if you decide on a Savage they make one with both a McMillan A3 and choate stock(McMillan much better option) and if you get a set-up rifle they are mounted with Leupold scope, so you can't go wrong with a Savage.
