I don't even know how to respond to this story. It's one thing when hipster posers wear Vietnam era issue they pick up at the surplus store or Goodwill, but this?
If the Army is licensing out this, who's next?

btw the author was a medic in Vietnam with the 1st and he doesn't seem happy.

I understand the Vet's view,, but I'd like to know if the license fees(s) are being put in general revenue or some sort of Veterans Fund??

Just like the conversations here about "Quiet Professional" and copyrights, maybe the pentagon should copyright and license ALL unit patches??

I want to know WHY they did it??? :confused::confused::confused:

Besides how many kids go to flee markets and yard sales to buy old fatigues with patches to ware to school??

In a small way I see it as advertising,, even if it's on a hippie..

It's probably a good way to attract high school kids' attention to the army via a celebrated unit, and make some folks rich at the same time - moreso the latter.

Odds of seeing Mark Hamil and Lee Marvin on one of these items of apparel?

Are they also going to market the famous 1st Infantry Division motto:

"If you are going to be one .... be a big red one."

To be honest, I don't see what's wrong with it. It's advertising for the Army. Big deal. Patches are patches and badges are badges...:rolleyes:

It's really no different than the shirts you can buy from ranger joes or any variety of Army/Navy store.

IIRC, there's been no outrage at the use of the CIB or CAB on those gawdy t-shirts that say "Combat Infantry - Combat Proven". Anyone can buy them. I have more trouble with that than someone wearing a stylized unit patch.

And CSB: The motto is a heck of alot more stylish than "Dog-faced Soldier" ;)

(for a laugh): What about Patches O'Houlihan? He's sporting what appears to be the patches of the 16th MP BDE, the 6th Cavalry, the 1st Corps (?- thought the dress one was black), and an upside down SF patch without ABN tab, to name a few.
