The difference between Ranger RGT. and SF group?

Ok, this is more than likely get me a BIG ration of crap from the members but it's a question I need to ask. I am looking at reenlisting for the option to reclass into 18E, I have also looked into a option to try out for the Ranger Regt. and I am a bit confused as to which to really persue. I have done a great deal of looking into what makes them both good and bad but I need "real life" input on such things as family life in the groups as i am married with 1 son and my family is my life. I also would like to know if trying out for Rangers as a stepping stone to the groups is smart choice. A lot of senior NCOs have advised me that bypass the Regt. and try straight for the groups. I have heard that Rangers look down on prior service trying to join into their brotherhood and that if you are lucky enough to survive RIP and get to the Batts. that they try to flush you out. Looking for some truth about these bits of advice. Any inofrmation is greatly appreicated.

Schools out and its a full moon.

Oh, well, might need to have one of the guys sitting by the door open it. If this keeps up something is going to end up in the hallway.

I have a vague recollection of this type of activity happening last summer, now that you mention it.

Gentlemen, first allow me to apologize for my lack of SA. I didn't mean to offend anyone by being that bull in the china shop. Secondly, I was simply trying to gain some insight into your world. As an outsider looking in I hear myths and rumors and was simply trying to disspell these things I have heard. I understand the rules are there and bend for no man. I assure you all that this incident will be looked upon by myself as a severe lesson learned and would hope that in time it will be forgiven.

A good start would be following the rules, introducing yourself in the proper place, and reading the stickies before posting again.

I think as long as you are honest with them at Batt, and tell them that you are only planning on being there a couple of years so they can be a "stepping stone" to getting a "real tab, and not just half of one" (use those exact words), you should be fine. If anything, they will at least make sure you will come to SFAS in shape.

Honestly dude, because no one else will probably answer your question, here goes....... If you want one of those paths bad enough (like, very..) and prepare accordingly, you will most likely do fine. If you want Regt. as a stepping stone, or 18 Series because you want the extra pay, you won't. Now, I would advise following the board SOPs and lurking a long, long time....anything you could possibly want to know is already on here as a thread and is available with a search. Also, the BTDTs on here are mean....

No they're not! I've found them to be jolly fellows, with a kind word for everyone that post's a question as soon as they sign up.

Marvin Blank,

You may want to take a step or two back and look at the opportunities afforded you here before you want to comment . If you think we are mean, you have no idea what you are getting in to nor do I believe you are what is needed in the force. Step back and get in your lane.

Do you have a lot of experience in the Ranger Regiment?

I disagree with several of your points.

Guys, just wanted to clear up a couple of points.

First of all, the "mean" comment was a joke. I put in the smiley to make sure everyone knew that, but if it was out of line, I apologize. Most of you know that I've been on here since before I enlisted (about three years), and you know how much I have utilized this site and appreciated the knowlede base it affords me access to. Some of you also have met me in person and know my personal views on how well this site is moderated, and how due to that moderation it is a much better resource than certain other SOF centic sites. Again, no disrespect meant.

As far as the Batt comments, no, I haven't. I'm assuming that you were refering to my comment that "if you want it bad enough, you should do fine". While I DO NOT think that "wanting it" bad enough will get you success in either unit, I do think that it is a necessary place to start. If I came across as infering that simply "not quiting" was enough to qualify (which is obviously not true), I again apologize and meant no disrespect.

So, how bout this weather!!! (As everyone looks up, dives in to foxhole...);)

First, you didn't use a smiley, you used a frowny. The name of it is actually "Mad".

Second, if you report into a Batt, and tell them that you are there for a few years on your way to SF, I can virtually guarantee that you will not make it though RIP. Bad advice.

What was that comment about staying in your lane, and not continuing to dig once you realize you are in a hole?
