This idiot's pistol did not "go off", accidentally or otherwise. He negligently discharged it by pulling the trigger. I would hardly call him a "Safety Instructor".:rolleyes:

How many people have not yet learned to leave the ammo outside the classroom?

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — A firearms instructor in southern Massachusetts has been assigned to other duties after his gun accidentally went off while he was teaching a class on weapons safety.

Officials say the Glock handgun discharged while Maj. Donald Lamar was demonstrating to Bristol County deputy sheriffs how to safely holster the weapon.

The bullet ripped a hole in Lamar's pants but missed his leg and foot.

Sheriff Thomas Hodgson says the officer made a "gross error in judgment" by not emptying the weapon before the class last week.

Lamar, a certified firearms instructor since 2005, was transferred to another division and will not carry a firearm while the incident is being investigated.

CRIMINALLY STUPID!

Similar to the DEA agent in a classroom full of kids, discharging one into his leg.

They generally learn a more valuable lesson when there is a surgical scar to remember the incident by....... (I know, typical trauma surgeon apathy!!)

Must have had his finger on the trigger while holstering his weapon???

Didn't this just happen out west, it was a Chief of Police in that incident. These two incidents are exactly the same. Maybe the Major read about the incident out west and decided to teach Safety and then.............
I blame a lot of this on pure ignorance. I always count myself fortunate to have been taught and mentored by professionals over the years.

Maricopa Sheriff's office runs regular training for LEO's.

From what I understand some Sheriff Deputy "weapons instructor" brings to class a LOADED machine gun. (Yes, in the class room.)

Yes, it went off. Funny how it never made the news.....;)

I'd really like to know why LEO's think they need the indiscrimanate fire delivered by machine guns?

The last time someone on the range turned around to ask me a question and pointed a loaded gun at me (finger on the trigger) was a North Texas chief of police. :eek:

We don't and off the top of my head---Two quick reasons.

I can not think of one situation where full auto is preferred over semi in an urban/suburban/rural environment where each police bullet has either the ACLU or Al Sharpton's "800" number on the projectile. It is also a huge waste of resources to spend $3,000-$4000 or more for a useless feature we will never use on the street when we could spend around $700 for the same gun. Just my .02

The weapon was personally owned and a buddy of mine received about 15 % hearing loss because of this incident.

Oh ya and it was MCSO's top F.I.

While down range every negligent discharge that I am personally aware of was produced by an E-7 or above.

I know that many of the higher ranking personal in the conventional units I served with did not, in many cases, come to weapon PMI. Or even the range at times.

One of many little gems I pulled of this web sight was the following quote; "Know that when you are through learning, you are through.". Seems it could apply here.

I can't wrap my brain around the concept of treating a firearm as anything less than a very serious piece of equipment. How so called "professionals" allow themselves to become so careless is a shame. It prompts manufacturers to try to build-out the problem by adding more safeties. Tsk Tsk Tsk.

I remember seeing that one. He tried to walk it off and keep going too. What an idiot. Best part is when he said "I'm the only one qualified to carry this in the room". Then it went off.

the carbines my department has have 3 round burst...................and we NEVER use it

the short story is the guns were bought by someone who was in administration and not someone who was actually going to be using them. I think this probably happens quite a bit (at least is has been my experience in the job)

I remember one time when someone in admin ordered a bunch of expandable batons without ever even speaking to a baton instructor.

Another example was someone ordering quite a bit of flashbangs and chemical munitions without ever bothering to find out what was actually needed

But then again, maybe some of them think it's just cool
