RIP, 2LT William F. Buckley, Jr.

Rest in peace, Sir, and thank you for your service and your words over the years.

Over ten MILLION words, many of them very large.

You were an amazing man, the likes of which we may not see again. A true Renaissance man.

For those who are not familiar with the man, please read the following obit, from the NY Times, no less.

When a conservative rates that kind of farewell, he must have done something rare and memorable in his life. He also lived to demonstrate that you do not have to hate your opponent to effectively oppose him.

Buckley was a goliath. The national discourse is poorer without him.

A sad day indeed. I am not a person inclined toward hero worship, but WFB was a truly heroic figure and a great inspiration to this small town Oklahoma boy while I was growing up. His enthusiasm for the life of the mind and his committment to strenuous, collegial discourse were contagious.

RIP, Sir. You will not be forgotten.

What a great loss, RIP. He single-handedly cleared the liberal crap out of my head 30+ years ago.

I believe this is a good time to break out that unopened 25 year old single malt scotch that I've had for over 15 years.

eo per Deus meus amicus.:)

William Buckley: A journalistic genius whose like will probably never be encountered again in our lifetime. R.I.P. Sir. And thank you for all youve offered.

One of my favorite Buckley quotes to start this week:

“I will not cede more power to the state. I will not willingly cede more power to anyone, not to the state, not to General Motors, not to the CIO. I will hoard my power like a miser, resisting every effort to drain it away from me. I will then use my power, as I see fit. I mean to live my life an obedient man, but obedient to God, subservient to the wisdom of my ancestors; never to the authority of political truths arrived at yesterday at the voting booth. That is a program of sorts, is it not? It is certainly program enough to keep conservatives busy, and Liberals at bay. And the nation free.” —William F. Buckley Jr.
