Outdoor Hockey: Pittsburgh @ Buffalo

Way cool, I don't know much about Hockey, but i would have loved to have been at this game. This should become the norm in NHL. On NBC right now.

Watching it, very cool. There seems to be an added air of excitement somehow.

I never played hockey indoors until I was an adult; so much more fun outdoors imo

Being a Penguin fan it would have been nice to have been there too.

Think about any sport that is played indoors and outdoors; the changing of and adapting to the conditions are what makes it so much more exciting!

Every one starts out on the pond on the farm. many is the time we would be playing for extended periods of time, not knowing what time it was. Then only to come home, after you couldn't see the puck on that "black ice", only to peal off your cloths, soaking wet from the ice, snow and sweat, your skin ashen and hurting once the blood started coming back and warming you up, only to wrap yourself up in a huge blanket, and have your parents start loading you up with Hot Cocoa, only to think about how your are going to exact your revenge on your friends the next day when you all meet up and play again.

That's why. :D

Quite a game, the shootout was exciting...even though I was rooting for Buffalo.

Brings back many memories!

Also remember coming home during the week from school to strap on the skates and grab a shovel to clean off any fallen snow to keep the pond ready for the weekend games ;)

ESPN radio was talking about how this game had the highest ratings for an NHL game in the past 10 years....

Most folks mention that it wasn't just the idea that it was played outdoors, but the fact that it snowed during the game. This made guys think back on the days of playing on the local pond.

I was lucky in that I never had to play hockey because I always made the football team :D. That game made me a hockey fan. Only negative was that hockey which is not exactly the easiest sport to watch on TV was made even more difficult to follow due to weather conditions.

This game was made for HD. It was simply awesome. As great advertisement for the NHL as they could have had.

Heard Mike and Mike yesterday talking about the game and they were talking about where the next game should be if they use this format. Someone called in and said Red Wings v. Ottawa at the Big House in Ann Arbor. 100,000 fans and they'd probably sell it out.

I think Red Wings v. Avs would be even better. Those two teams can't play without getting into a fight. I think Sdiver would agree with me.
