Hard Armor Plates
 

I'm looking for the best hard armor plates that will stop multiple direct rifle hits, weight is a factor the lighter the better, cost is not really a factor. Any info would be greatly appericated. The plates will be worn over soft armor and deployed in times where I will be going to a gunfight. Any and all recommendations are appericated.

I have been looking at Dragon Skin, PACA plates, and Second Chance plates. But if I'm going to throw down a couple grand out of my own pocket I want to make sure I'm getting the best that is currently out.

If reviews are to be believed, I would go with the DragonSkin. It seems to be particularly good at stopping multiple hits. Only downside is the slightly increased weight and the significantly greater cost.

I just wish I knew why the Army was so dead set against it.

I have been looking very hard at the Dragon Skin but I hesitate because what I'm looking for is an up-armor system I can throw over my concealable armor and uniform shirt while responding to shots fired calls. I'm thinking that stand-alone plates in a TT type plate carrier will handle my needs.

The Dragon Skin maybe the best choice but I may not be able to move wearing concealable armor and Dragon skin at the same time.

Don't know if this is much help but we tested these new plates when our Team purchased the Paraclite System. They were made in Israel if I remember correctly. They had a jell filling. Looked just like Jell-O. The weight was lighter then any hard plates. So light that I didn't believe they would stop anything when I first held one in my hand. They were stand alone Level 4. They stopped multiple .308 Rounds and .223 green tip when we shot them. Paraclite had them. This was three years ago. The cost was $1800.00 per plate. Sorry don't remember the name but like I said Paraclite was selling them. Check out their web Page.

SJ - Check out Patriot Performance Materials. www.patriotmaterials.com They have a proprietary plate that is better than anything else I've seem. I would recommend discussing it with them personally as I'm not an expert. The price is about $1000 in Level III and $1200 in Level IV. Weight is < 7lbs ea and the test samples I saw had all passed multiple impacts (Level IV test protocols) w/i 3" of each other and w/i 1" of the edge. I was very impressed. FWIW - Peregrino

Second the Patriot plates. I was fortunate enough to get a tour of their facility, and saw their test plate that stopped six 7.62x39 rounds. I bought a set about eighteen months ago, and prices were very close to what Peregrino stated.

If price really isn's an issue check out diamondbacktactical's multi-hit stuff, they have some nice multi hits and stand alones, my best friend just got his, theyre light and about half the weight and width of the issued porcalain plates my SRT had. I'd get em, but I dont have the $$$ to throw at them.
