Every time I see this picture of Pappy Boyington,,
I think of John Belushi in 1941.

Colonel Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, USMC, was born on December 4, 1912. As a WW2 fighter ACE, he was the recipient of the Medal of Honor and Navy Cross and is credited with shooting down 26 enemy planes while leading VMF-214, the "Black Sheep Squadron."

I always thought the real Gregory “Pappy” Boyington looked like Simon Oakland, the actor that played the general on the series.

He used to do the air show circuit in Southern California back in the '70s and sell autographed copies of "Baa Baa Black Sheep".

What I remembered most about the time that I met him was that he was short. At 14 I was a few inches taller than he. :p

It's a good read.
