We played with bows (recurve and cross) a few times just to learn the skill set but never deployed with them.

I know they were used by a few guys, though, like RT Pick 1-0 Bob Graham during some CCS operations (Graham w/bow, Crimmings, Ash, and Oppel returning from Daniel Boone AO).

Liked the "explosive" arrowhead that looked like a burnt marshmallow. :D

Wicked seeing the arrow penetrate the entire target after the FMJ projectiles didn't. ;)

We had a picture in our LRS (101st) Detachment Headquarters area of a Vietnam era 101st LRRP suited up before or after a mission holding a bow and a quiver of arrows. I always wondered about that.

Thanks for the knowledge Richard!

In the early days of firearms, long guns were preferred over crossbows only because of the intimidating noise they made. They , for many years , did not penetrate armour as well as even a longbow could. Reloading a bow, and even a crossbow was quicker than a flintlock.
