Military Attempts Coup in Turkey, Prime Minister Says

ISTANBUL — The prime minister of Turkey said on Friday night that factions of the military had attempted a coup.

“Some people illegally undertook an illegal action outside of the chain of command,” Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said in comments broadcast on NTV, a private television channel. “The government elected by the people remains in charge. This government will only go when the people say so.”

Military forces shut two bridges over the Bosporus in Istanbul, and fighter jets were seen flying over Istanbul and Ankara, the capital.

Mr. Yildirim said security forces had been called in to “do what is necessary,” according to Reuters.

They most definitely do not have control of the streets at the moment.

John Bolton just mentioned this on Fox:

Quote:

...from the moment he pronounced himself the ''imam'' of Istanbul, Erdogan began both provoking anxieties and recoiling from the fact that he had provoked them. He banned alcohol from municipal establishments, which created concern that he would eliminate alcohol from restaurants too. But he never did. He revived an elaborate project for a mosque complex in the city's heart, then backed off when there were protests. He never clearly allayed secular concerns, keeping them alive instead with comments like: ''Democracy is like a streetcar. When you come to your stop, you get off.''

Nice of the coup plotters to wait until Friday market closures.

Gives them 2 days to consolidate before Monday.

If still chaos then markets are going to hurt.

Surprised the Turkish PM is on TV.

Erdogan on FaceTime.

President Obama vocally supporting government.

And no Chief of Turkish Defense Force or service chiefs on TV.

Middle management coup?

Since Erdogan emasculated Turkish military reboot option a number of years ago.

Interesting.

The crowds in the streets appear pro-Erdogan, but don't seem to be attacking the troops. However, I have seen some people get shot on Sky News.

State news agency- a bomb has hit parliament.

Military- we are in complete control.

Turkish intel agency- situation is back to normal after an attempted coup.

Fog of war- ruling the night, as usual.
