This guy should be pulling bed-pan duty at Walter Reed, with no breaks, no lunch, and no transport. Make him walk a damn mile that other more honable Soldiers can't.

I think this is all much ado over nothing. IIRC, his pay and allowances go into abeyance until the final review - nothing new here. If he's granted a new trial based upon fault or legal error, it starts all over again. Until the final review, he will be able to utilize military medical care for his hormones, etc (unless you are a straight, hetero-sexual male requiring hormones due to jump/range/training accident). I suspect that the review will occur fairly quickly and he'll collect his DD and be on his way to Ross for a kicky new outfit.

I've been out of Crim-Law for a bit and just getting back up to speed on the new stuff so maybe Two-Guns will chime in.

If he's granted a new trial, can they convict him all over again and undo the commutation, or would this be a "double jeapordy" situation? :confused:

Hell, give him a General Other than Honorable discharge with no VA benefits and let him walk. Like someone else said, chances are he'll off himself before long. (Unless he somehow crosses the Clinton gang and they'll kill him)

Can't sell it back so when all the accrued leave is burned then comes the Dishonorable & bye-bye benefits? Guess I don't get, even under these circumstances, how someone can accrue leave in a non-pay status.

The High Church of Akademia (franchises available) has actually been well on its way for quite some time, with isolated exceptions. All part of the plan. Folks, if you want kids/grand-kids to get a "Classic" liberal arts education* that produces a really productive person you have to think smaller size, smaller population in its location, bigger expectations that the student will really work their butt off, and bigger bak-sheesh from the wallet. But places like that are still around, you have to look a bit harder & forget the big names. And they're worth it.

* assuming that's actually needed. It's not for everyone, and the trades are clamoring for people to train.

Apparently there is some small shred of sanity and decency left at Harvard. Or else too many financial backers pledged to be former financial backers.

My guess was the latter. The only way to stop some of these morons is to cut off their access to everyone else's money.

All about the money or else Elmendorf wouldn't have felt the need to apologize to "her" - the retraction has nothing to do with sanity and decency

(No connection; just happen to be familiar with that one as I know an Econ prof there.) Things you would see: Rational arguments as to why certain things in history still do/don't work on their merits & support of rightful liberty. Things you'll never see: Thugs in pussy hats allowed to disrupt free-speech or the faculty & admins held hostage over creation of "safe spaces." Spendy; they do have scholarships they'll award from a variety of similarly resolute benefactors & how the student pays for their education is up to them but the school itself doesn't really play that "give me my Gubmint money" thing.

I've explored a number of research fellows programs at leading universities and took a course at the JFK school. Research fellows programs are highly selective.

The decision to accept Manning was nothing short of an academic, ethical, intellectual, and moral failure.

When you look at this clinically and remove the transgender equation and remove the espionage/sedition/treason equation, you are left looking at a person who failed at everything they ever did, including failing to pass a single first semester course at community college.

An observer is left with the conclusion that Manning was accepted solely for being a transgender traitor/spy due to there being zero credible support for Manning to be accepted.

And if a university accepts a person into a prestigious research fellows program based entirely on being a transgender spy, it completely destroys the credibility of the university, and even worse, the work of every research fellow who has actually created genuine value.

I would place the Manning debacle by Harvard in a similar category to that of the Weather Underground terrorists who were hired to teach at Columbia U and U of Chicago.

At least Manning got sacked before starting.

Serious criminal offenses and/or a total lack of minimum necessary educational/life experience SHOULD be easy filters to prevent rubbish from making it in.

Personally, I don't see how its possible to legally mitigate the left's defensible position in much of academia.

It seems to me looking from the outside in that elements right of center have defensible positions over slices of Wall Street & defence while elements of the left have defensible positions over slices of academia and media and making considerable inroads in tech.

It's like a domestic cold war.

There have been a few credible-ish posts on the net about Manning's less than stellar career in the Army from Basic.

"Failing fast" and learning from it is an important characteristic of a high performing culture.

But NOT when it comes to recruiting. You just can't afford to fail in recruiting.
