"..........If Sisi continues to seek legitimacy for military rule by associating it with Islamism, it could prove to be a disaster for Egypt. At the very least, it would set back the democratic cause immeasurably. It would also reinforce the military’s octopus-like hold on the economy, which is already one of the major obstacles to the country's economic development. And it would also pose new dilemmas for the military itself: somehow it would need to reconcile serving the strategic objectives of Islam and those of its American patrons. It’s not clear whether that circle could be squared. And the experiment would likely come at the expense of the Egyptian people..........." We'll see. |

Egypt bloodshed: At least 149 killed as troops clear pro-Morsi camps
Egypt bloodshed: At least 149 killed as troops clear pro-Morsi camps
http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2...rsi-camps?lite "CAIRO – Egypt descended into a chaotic bloodbath – and another political crisis - Wednesday after security forces backed by bulldozers moved into opposition protest camps set up by supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi, sparking deadly violence. At least 149 people were killed and 1,403 injured, the country’s health ministry said, but the toll looked certain to rise as unrest spread from Cairo to other parts of the country................" The pro Morsi crowd got the short end of the stick - today. We'll see how Friday turns out. |
According to the last report I read, the Interior Minister announced that 21 police stations had been attacked and 43 members of the security forces killed, including two major-generals and two colonels. Since the Ministry of Health was stating that 149 civilians had been killed, I would assume that these 43 are on top of the 149, but further reports may change that.

Egypt's tourism faces meltdown as security fears mount
http://www.france24.com/en/20130816-...ty-fears-mount "AFP - Egypt's tourist industry was facing meltdown on Friday as foreign governments warned their citizens to stay away and told visitors already there to remain in their hotels. Fears of nationwide unrest in the wake of a violent crackdown by the military-backed interim government earlier this week have resulted in a string of countries issuing official advice against all but essential travel to Egypt..............." Reading the article just between Russia, England and Italy there's 109,000 tourists in Egypt - mostly in the resorts off to the SE. |

Saudis Warn the West: We Won’t Forget Your Stance on Egypt
See more at: http://cnsnews.com/news/article/saud....JTrH8VMa.dpuf "(CNSNews.com) – In a blunt warning to countries critical of the Egyptian military crackdown and considering suspending aid, longstanding U.S. ally Saudi Arabia suggested that the decisions they make now will have long-term consequences for their relationships in the Arab and Muslim world. Saudi Arabia has led the way in supporting the Egyptian military’s actions, first in removing the Muslim Brotherhood administration early last month and in its subsequent steps against supporters of the ousted Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi..........." |
