While not Islamic, China's economy is similarly military dependent - if not outright controlled. Will either learn lessons from the other?

I see this as highly consistent with Muhammad's actions in Medina. Say one thing while doing another. Cobbling together alliances with Christians and Jews to further his end then accomplishing that end toss them aside and turn on them as enemies. The original community organizer IMO. Hmmm....now that I think of it that does sound all too familiar.

I believe he may be saying what he thinks he has to in order to keep the lid on the Brotherhood and other islamic extremists.

The pro Morsi crowd got the short end of the stick - today.

We'll see how Friday turns out.

According to the last report I read, the Interior Minister announced that 21 police stations had been attacked and 43 members of the security forces killed, including two major-generals and two colonels. Since the Ministry of Health was stating that 149 civilians had been killed, I would assume that these 43 are on top of the 149, but further reports may change that.

The last seems to me a pretty well-crafted vanilla statement - plucked out of the pocket from time to time - and seems an effort to deflect Saudi Arabia basically calling us out for action (or inaction) vis a vis Syria. In this instance, however, it would seem Faisal got his answer. (Then again, this is more complicated than the professor and the Cambridge PD.) I wonder if anyone is reviewing events & advising based on another country from 60 years ago.
