SOF mottos

Hi,

I start a thread about all SOF mottos around the world, or any other motto that is in the spirit of SOF.

There are fews:

Who Dares Wins. origin from "Qui Ose Gagne" (British SAS)
De Oppresso Liber. (US SF) (Ok I'm not a cock...., that's why I didnt put it first :D )
Facta non Verba. "Deeds, not words" (JTF-2, Canadian SOF)
Osons. (or "we dare") (former Canadian Airborne Regiment)
On Rit avec le Diable. "We laugh with the devil" (French, 6RPIMa)
Yesterday was the Last Easy Day. (US NAVY SEALS)
Follow Me. (US Infantry)
Win the Mind Win the Day.
Knowledge is Power.
Nous Défions. "We defy" ( WWII origin)
First in Last out.
You don't have to like it, you just have to do it. (origin: a book  ...)
Could be worst. (universal)
Still having fun? (After a looonnnngggg run).

That`s it for now. your turn.

Also, I believe that "Facta not Verba" translates to: Deeds not Words

"..five more miles..."

szechuan 10-27-2004 09:20

The Finnish Laskuvarjojääkärikoulu/Airborne Jaeger School: "Excelsior"

With my non-existent Latin skills I would translate this as "Outdo yourself" or "Aim for excellence". Hope this makes some sense, my own unit does not seem to have a motto, just some old stories about fighting for Bulgarian Independence from the Osman Empire. :)

Marine Motto: Swift, Slient, Deadly... Or as all the operators know. Slow, Loud, Scared shittless.

If you can't win their hearts and minds. Kill them with bigger bombs.

NousDefionsDoc 12-07-2004 16:12

LOL - when I get lost in the car, I tell The Kid I'm doing counter-terrorism driving to make sure nobody's following us. I don't think he's going for it much anymore.

RAT 12-07-2004 17:57

You get lost????

RAT OUT!!!

Razor 12-07-2004 20:40

Of course not, he's conducting area reconnaissance.

SFRADIOMAN 12-07-2004 20:48

getting lost

For the professional soldier there is no such thing as being lost, they are just studying all they can of the surrounding area so that in the future if they pass that way again, they can say they have been there before. See, not lost, just preparing to pass that way again.

Correction.

The only easy day was yesterday. (BUD/S motto)

There really isn't any sort of official motto in the teams.

Mottos

"First In... Last Out" - U.S. Army Pathfinders

FEBA = False Enthusiam, Bad Attitude

As for the "ruck" remarks, I've heard it rendered as:

[E-MAIL, SOLDIER TO WIFE] When I get off the plane you better be there with a mattress strapped to your bacK.

[E-MAIL, WIFE TO SOLDIER] I'll be there, with mattress. You better be the first man off the plane.

12B4S 12-15-2004 21:16

I have to follow that??

I waited. Nobody posted. Jeeeez, OK...

When I was in jump school ( summer of '68 ) the black hats very seldom failed to finish a sentence, command or butt chewing without this one:
STAY ALERT..... STAY ALIVE!!!
Not to mention the signs and banners all over reinforcing that.

Ugh.... one more, yet localized.

"The DZ's are getting smaller and the water colder"

( LT COL Ludwig Faistenhammer 1970.... "Motivating" his troops in the Flint Kaserne theatre.

PS
I swear there was a third... came to me a year or so ago..... anyway this site does tend to awaken old memories ;)
