Just decanted these two from the cellar for this evenings dining.

I could chug both bottles and it would only make my liver itch.

Nah, Tequila is for chugging...It has made my liver itch a time or two as well. This stuff is for enjoying with red meat fresh off the grill.:)

Did the cat get a glimpse of the price tag?

I'm not entirely sure of the price myself, we bought these as "futures", multiple case lots, many years ago. So we did not pay what they would bring at their current market value.

And since we have more than we can ever consume we are dragging them out and enjoying them. I think we decanted three Robert Parker 100 point wines for my birthday.

Dusty 03-10-2012 12:33

No, doesn't weigh enough. He's more like family...

I was thinking something similar, only more along the lines of an amuse-bouche.

I have it on good authority that my wife (being of discriminating taste) prefers the company of the cats to me. Therefore no feline hors d'œuvres.

Done ever research the current price or those wines. The current vintage is at least a mortgage payment per case.

Roguish Lawyer 03-10-2012 18:47

Holy shit! Special occasion or are you just loaded? :)

mark46th 03-10-2012 21:02

About 10 years ago, I was at Costco. They had a Rothschild Mouton Cadet Medoc for $6.99 a bottle. vintage 1995. I tasted it at home, went back to Costco and bought the last 10 cases. I went to another Costco and bought 12 more cases of '95 and '97. I drank the last bottle a couple of years ago. The best wine I have ever drank, especially with Prime Rib or steak...

Oldrotorhead 03-10-2012 21:06

I have bought a few wine futures. The last one I am buying was double magnums of a secopnd growth for two grand daughters 21st b-day. They are 7 now and the damn bottles (if you can find double magnums) is over $2000 and it is a SECOND Growth. Drink all of those wines you bought in good health. Enjoy them because very few people can apreciate that quality wine.

More wine than we can consume (approx 6000 btls), and we aren't going to sell it so we'll just drink it.

Understood. This evening the Lefleur was better than the Margaux.

ZonieDiver 03-10-2012 21:58

My 2010 Kirkland Malbec was pretty okay with the jambalaya I concocted.

How many other 82 bourdeauxs do you have?

Penn 03-11-2012 04:30

6000 Btls of seriousness...how many air miles do I have...what's the Burgundy collection look like, any DRC's, La Tâche and Grands Échezeaux make me crazy. Lets do a charity dinner.

French wines?

I've just begun opening my 2007 and 2008 Cabernet Sauvignons, Ancient Vine Zinfandels, Pinot Noirs, and San Giovesses from the Napa, Alexander, and Russian River Valleys - all 91-94 points and OUTSTANDING!

Chateau Montelena (Napa Valley)
Hartford Family (Alexander Valley, Russian River alley)
Hafner (Sausal Creek Alexander Valley)
Gustavo Thrace (Napa Valley Carneros Region)
Sausal (Sausal Creek Alexander Valley)
La Sirena (Napa alley)
Golden Eye (Anderson Valley)

My wife likes the Chardonnays from Chateau Montelena, Hartford Family, Golden Eye, Hafner, and Taylor Family (Napa Valley Carneros Region).

We just enjoyed a Hartford 2009 Lands Edge (they do a lot of single vineyard lots) Pinot Noir with grilled frenched lamb the other night and OMG - IWC gives it 92 points and I've just ordered a couple more bottles because it was so good.

Our desire to spend the next several decades earnestly searching for that next great glass of wine is part of the reason we'll be moving back to our ranch in NorCal this year.

Anyway, the point of all this is that for you wine lover's out there, it's going to be a GREAT wine sipping year this year. ;)

The simple answer is I don't know. We were well catalogued a couple of years ago, until we were flooded out of our Iowa City home, at that time,we evacuated approx 6000 bottles to the farm. We have not yet placed them all of them in their bins, and we already had couple of thousand in the farm's wine cellar.

For you I took a couple of pic's, this morning. I'll try to post them up, with Nancy's help of course.

You have it correct. It's all about the enjoyment...

We were in Ireland a couple of years ago, Nancy was there to give a talk. I had sampled my first Guiness (in Ireland) that afternoon, at the speakers dinner we were regaled with pretty special wines, I dutifully sipped the wines placed in front of me, but wanted more Guiness...So I asked our host if he would mind if I switched to guiness, I comsumed 8-10 pints and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful.

The Burgundy's are long gone, Nancy specialized primarily in Bordeauxs.

We do not do much Cali wine, we do however have a great vertical tasting of Dominus, starting in the 80's covering 5 years.

Oldrotorhead 03-11-2012 15:22

At least you have enough good wine to keep your joints lubed well into old age. And if your joints don't stay loose, just open another bottle.:D

Penn 03-11-2012 17:48

Is this collection the the one which experienced the flood a few years back; if it is, did you lose any bottles?

Roguish Lawyer 03-12-2012 00:26

Damn it, I WAS JUST IN IOWA TOO!

You near Des Moines? I may be back . . . and would obviously need to pay my respects . . . :)

According to the MSM, we top the world in wine consumption: http://www.nydailynews.com/life-styl...icle-1.1006945

I wonder how CPTAUSRET cellar figures into those stats :p :D

On that note, this past Thursday(3/8), was the Jewish holiday of Purim, in which salvation in the Purim story was brought about through very liberal amounts of wine. Of course celebrating the holiday involves much of the same. ;)

We had a great deal of help moving the wine, nothing of importance was lost. I overlooked 6 bottles of Dom Perignon, which I later found floating, so I threw them out.

Approx 110 miles from Des Moines. If you can find the Eastern Iowa Airport on a map, we are 15 minutes from the airport.
