Toe Shoes

1 Attachment(s)
So there you are contracting in the ME doing what you guys do... you come up on a guy wearing the usual stuff then you look at his feet for no particular reason and see......toe shoes.. (see attachment). :D

Gypsy 02-25-2010 19:19

OMG! That reminds me of those toe socks that used to be so popular. :D

Here is the website for this particular style. trek

I have a pair too I guess I should admit.
Mine are not that, mmmmmmmm, industrial grade.
mine are purple though
five fingers classic (hold the cursor over the color shoe to show what it looks like. I still laugh at the reactions I get when I wear them.

Gypsy 02-25-2010 19:26

Gahhhh I could never wear those. My toes must be...freeeeeeeeeee! :D

To tell the truth, they feel wierd. I have yet to truly get used to them.
I prefer my whole feet to be free. Barefoot rules.

But to see some guy in body armor and all that with a pair of these on, would simply leave me falling over laughing.

adal 02-25-2010 20:10

Hate to admit this. Espesically here. I have a pair. Love em. They have to be the right size, but I can wear them all day and my feet are not tired. I ahve a buddy that runs 15 miles a day. Couple of Ultra runners do most of their races with them on. Black ones are very sneaky too.

craigepo 02-25-2010 21:51

I read about those in the Born to Run book. Been kind of curious.
Is Vibram the only company that makes these?

Yep, if you can get past the toes in each individual 'case'.. they are comfortable. I bought them as boat/deck shoes at a local to Anapolis marine store. The pair in the photo belong to a contractor that is also a sailor.

To be honest I initially bought them for the 'wierd' factor. I have always enjoyed walking my own dirt road. :munchin

TOMAHAWK9521 02-25-2010 23:48

Toe shoes, eh? Interesting. Hey, I'm all about being comfortable. I even broke out one of my Utilikilts on my last tour in Iraq to deal with the heat while building a mortar position.

was it digicam or plaid?:munchin Where are the pics...?

TOMAHAWK9521 02-26-2010 00:18

It was their Workman model which is made from the same fabric as Carharts. Cotton duck cloth, I believe. Utilikilts doesn't have any tartans but they do have different camo patterns. My guys initially cast disparaging remarks at my attire until the sun hit its zenith. They were soaking with sweat and I simply took it in stride. :p

Didn't mean to derail the thread. Perhaps there should a WTF? attire thread.

Toe shoes

To anyone that has worn and run seriously in the Vibram Five Finger shoes or the "toe shoes" have you noticed an increase in your efficiency in running, decreased foot or knee pain or injuries ect as claimed by the manufacturer? The epidemiological data between shod and non-shod populations is interesting. Do those non-shod populations run on paved roads though? Those that are part of the "barefoot running" movement believe that modern running shoes only hurt us and state that no good studies have shown that all of the pricey technology in modern day running shoes hasn't been shown to decrease injury rates.

Sure they look goofy but if my overpronation is potentially caused by weak foot and calf muscles from being supported all day instead of my muscles doing the work I'll be willing to give them a chance.

craigepo 02-26-2010 09:28

Dozer, you have to be more confident in your masculinity.

Why no try to learn to go barefoot most of the time?

Patriot007 02-26-2010 11:27

Current wind chill of 16 nor the average winter day doesn't agree with that. Now if I were in FL...

It is 16 degrees inside your house.. man you are braver than I. It is only 55 here, that is 20 degrees below normal. I admit to shoes no at the moment. :D Wool bedroom slippers.

You can start by going barefoot inside and then work up to it when it gets warm perhaps?

Yeah, one of the guys uses them all the time and he says run a little at a time as the muscles in your legs and feet are not used to them. However, the SGM says they hurt!!! But you do not know it until after you are through running and lyou have run too fast for too long. They are comfortable, according to them.

They also look gay as hell but do work.

The study you site is well received by many runners and when they experiment with the toe style of runnig feel better, run longer, with less pain.

Dozer, easy man! You can talk shoes without going pink. Especially when it helps you run. :D

Admission of Party Foul.....Case Dismissed!

Wearing a pair now. Get some funny looks at the grocery store.

I go barefoot a lot when around the house, but these damn NC sand spurs are friggin' out of control in the backyard.

Good medium for me. I haven't run in them yet. A few more weeks and I'll be hitting the fire breaks a few miles at a time. Still too cold in the AM to shed some covering on the feet. They are really breathable though. That is nice.

greenberetTFS 02-26-2010 19:26

You know what's really funny about all this, these GAY designers make up shoes like this as "revenge on straight guys".............. Getting SF guys to buy them is just an added treat for them.......... When I hear that TR got a pair is when I'll consider getting mine...........:p
