Perhaps we can see something of the truth if we look at the political futures market.
LINK Briefly, the chances of a health care bill are down, troops to Afghanistan are up, and U.S. unemployment rate in Dec 2009 going above 10% is also up. This seems to suggest that many of the POTUS supporters will regard the outcomes as a failure of leadership. The unemployment numbers suggest a general consensus that his economic leadership is, likewise, failed. We are headed into challenging financial times. Should they worsen, then I suspect the POTUS will receive a substantial portion of blame - hence, a failed presidency. |
Too early to be a failed Presidency but , imho, a failing Presidency.
I particularly pay attention to the most recent international responses to this kindler/gentler approach and note the disdain rising from our allies and the glee of our enemies. Our allies will bitch about us regardless...but they'd rather bitch about a strong standfast US than a vascilating weak administration that they cannot count on for anything but a photo op. I believe he is seen as a hollow suit that loves to speak in rhetorical platitudes that accomplish squat. Our enemies, otoh, are besides themselves and will give him meaningless platform after platform to feed his ego and watch his lips move while they do whatever they want. |
Funny how they start the turn after the failed Olympic bid..........my $.02

Good article.
During the election, I told somebody that if Obama won, we would be praying for a resurrection of Clinton. Unfortunately, we could end up hoping that Obama is only as good a president as Jimmy Carter. Personally, I think that Obama ranks about the same on the "liberal scale" as Clinton did. Clinton's advantage was that he had hired Dick Morris. On every big decision, Morris used his triangulation strategy, which kept Clinton much more centrist than the left wing of his party. Obama, on the other hand, has no common-sense, conservative-democrat type in his cabinet. The ideas that have and will come from this president are going to continue to be extreme left-wing. Good presidents, like good military commanders, have good experience, understand what's going on in the field and have ready access to "ground truth". Unfortunately, I'm afraid this president has no ground truth. Moreover, prior to this job, he has never made a decision of consequence(as a legislator, his voice was one of many), so he has no well of experience to draw from. Could be a long four years. |

Clinton let Hillary try to ram through a big government health care plan, signed a bad Crime Bill, etc., in his first two years and his numbers tanked before he hired Morris after the disastrous 94 elections, who then dragged him back to the center. Obama's idea of center seems to be considerably to the left of Clinton. I agree with your assessment of his czars and advisors. TR |
He just wants to "be" president.
He doesn't want to "do" what the president does. It's just one big ego trip. Another from American Thinker: http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/...ent_perks.html George Will's take: http://townhall.com/columnists/Georg...for_narcissism |

Need I continue? His cabinet are a bunch of turds, this congress are a bunch of turds, and Obama is the biggest turd of them all. He has surrounded himself with turds, attempted to cuddle up to the communists and was snubbed. He has strengthened ties with NOBODY, but has weakened our relationships with virtually every country on the face of this earth. I don't see anybody even bringing up the subject impeaching the f***ing piece of $#!+, but they were ready to hang GW by his nuts for saying combat operations were completed in Iraq prematurely. The lefties wanted to impeach GW just for that, yet look what this ass-clown has gotten away with and not so much as a peep from the US media besides Glen Beck. So, if it is really too early to be a failed presidency, please enlighten us as to how Obama might turn this around and be successful because he has completely and permanently destroyed any chance to gain my support for anything. Maybe you can help me trust he will pull through??? :munchin Be safe, Randy |

Case in point: I was in Trujillo, Venezuela in 1996. We were the first US troops that had ever been there and naturally we had all the girls' attention. I was at a laundromat on Saturday talking to a woman in her 60s. She said "I don't know why all the girls are so crazy about the Americans. Americans are immoral." When I asked her why she thought that, her response was, "Look who you elected for president, not once, but twice." That was literally in BFE where there is one street light which is a dim bulb hanging on a bare wire over the central intersection in town, they have no running water 12 hours a day and electricity about 16 hours a day, but they watch US news. That is a very clear statemnent of what Clinton did to the world's opinion of our country and US as a whole. It most certainly strengthened Al Quaeda's propaganda machine and helped them gain momentum. Not to mention he was impeached. Did we forget about that? That, sir, is a failed presidency. I also disagree that Obama is a "closet" socialist. If it has a bill like a duck, quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, guess what it is... Obama's presidency failed when he supported that BS stimulus plan. We cannot afford to pay the interest on it. By 2012 we will owe three times the amount to the Chinese that we do now simply because of interest, and that is not including the next chunk Obama wants to borrow for his next BS plan. The Chinese want to cut us off, so where does he turn next, Saudi Arabia? One thing that every American should be distinctly aware of after this past 18 months is what happens when you cannot pay your bills. The creditor comes to take away your stuff. How long will it take for the Chinese to decide they want to come take our stuff? Be safe, Randy |

"Can we really not afford the interest on the stimulus though? I mean there are other countries with much higher national debts in proportion to their economies than the United States, but they are still ticking. I understand that the interest on the national debt could get so large that it will consume the defense budget which is very bad, but I would think that will more be from the excessive spending, not the stimulus itself:confused"
I would opine that the problem is not with debt, per se. Even Reagan said "the deficit is big enough to take care of itself." The problem is the reason a country is incurring the debt/spending money. If, for example, the country spends taxpayer funds(coerced from the citizenry, of course) for infrastructure-esque investments, which will bring a descent return on investment, ok. However, when we are amassing a huge debt to bailout failed businesses or to buy UAW votes(cash for clunkers, anyone?), we have a huge problem. The only measurable rate-of-return will be how large a majority of those receiving stimulus funds(I don't know anybody who has received a check) vote for BHO. As for other countries' massive debt-load vis-a-vis how we should run this country, do we really want to saddle ourselves and our children with such a huge debt, with nobody really receiving a "benefit" therefrom? Many economists are arguing, rightly in my opinion, that the stimulus has had little to no effect whatsoever. To emulate present-day European economies, with effective tax rates of WELL over 50%, will ensure that our country's economic prosperity comes to a permanent screeching halt. There is no such thing as a pain-free existence. The economy is going to cycle. Taxing the rich to give to the poor only exacerbates and lengthens economic down-turns. See generally Adam Smith. |
