Weapon of the day

A little weapon and accoutrement ID thread, maybe? To start, a fairly easy weapon, but lots of add-on doohickies.

Sure looks like that to me! :lifter

Airbornelawyer 11-13-2006 17:48

Not an AK-74. BTW, the picture was taken in Iraq.

A souped up AK (AKA Galil). I remember working with them in Colombia in the 80's. Wasn't nearly as impressed with it as all the "soldier of fiction" gun rag writers were. Ranked right down there with the Steyr AUGs in Ecuador and the G-3's in El Sal. He does have all the "in vogue" toys on it though. Next? :munchin Peregrino

AL, your latest avatar was half a matching set that hung in my room as a kid. I'll send you the therapy bill for any skeletons in the closet that dredges up. ;)

The Reaper 11-13-2006 23:49

Galil SAR in 5.56.

Sorry for the delay.

Any bonus round on the accoutrements?

Also, note the mag in the first pic. Not a standard Galil mag. Looks like a South African R-4/5/6 mag.

Aimpoint, Aimpoint 3x mag, Surefire 6p in some sort of offset mount(doesn't look like the Vtac one, probably Command Arms/Fobus), Railed handguard, Vert grip of some kind. What else?

Good times,
Blake

New weapon, a pistol:

Tuukka 11-14-2006 11:14

Yarygin PYa / MP-443 "Grach"

PS. The above Galil also sports a B&T Universal Rifle Suppressor.

A Russian made semi-automatic pistol in 9x19 Para. Designed by Vladimir Yarygin and manufactured by Izhmekh ( Baikal ) The civilian version is known as the MP-446 Viking, some of those are on the market here.

Tuuka,
Does the B&T Suppressor use the same universal attachment mechanism as the American made Gemtech "Halo"?

Just curious.

Good times

Basically yes, The original manufacturer of that type of mount is LEI from the UK and if I recall correctly, Gemtech makes it under licence.

Good answer, but the answer I was looking for is "the pistol replacing the Makarov as the standard sidearm for the Russian armed forces." :D

OK, a grenade this time:

Tuukka 11-14-2006 14:27

French tear gas grenade Mle F1.

I called this "Weapon of the day," but perhaps "Weapons of the day" is more accurate.

You always know Tuukka's going to come in and spoil everyone's fun with his encyclopedic knowledge of weapons. ;)

Of course, the Armenian flag colors were right there on the berets.

Yeah sure, counselor - we all know you're pm'ing him the answers to show up the QPs....;)

Amazing knowledge Tuukka, good job.

One question - Why did the guys in the jeep even bother with the fake camoflauge? The berets and patches aren't very tactical...

Hell, That's probably one of Tuuka's suppressors on the thing.

The photo is from the military parade in commemoration of the 15th anniversary of Armenian independence. You always get gussied up for a parade. And chicks dig guys in camo.

That ain't camo, it's dirt stripes; get them a washcloth, or a real camo stick or two.

OK, next up to bat, a roadie for Guns 'N Roses,.... no, wait, ... a Portuguese cop (Guarda Nacional Republicana) looking quite fashionable in his black T-shirt and blue beret.

Also, I'm thinking maybe Tuukka's not allowed to play, at least until others get their chance.

An SG-543 is chambered for 5.56 NATO. What are those little colored things on his right chest? ;)

aricbcool 11-15-2006 19:21

I had thought of that. But then I saw the mag pouches underneath and thought maybe there's a shotgun mounted to the front.

Next guess is a Benelli M4 Super 90...

--Aric

SMGCat 11-15-2006 20:49

Benelli M4 with collapsable stock. But what about the high CDI factor tactical sun goggles...

I don't know dick about shotguns. ;) Benelli M4 was my guess too. In the full pic, you can see what his comrade carries.

Looks like an HK GMG with a Ta01 ACOG on it
