ODA CDR (RET) intro
Hello all, been reading here for awhile and thought I did this a long time ago. I retired from the service in 04 after 23 years. 2 & 1/2 years in the 82nd the rest in SF. Never been in SWC and have always been on a team, won't count the year I spent in SFC, 9/11 got me out of there. I consider myself a 7th Group man but spent from 9/11 to retirement in 3rd. I have a question I'm pretty sure I know the answer to, but will post in the discussion area for input. Congrats on a great site.
Sorry second intro, did'nt find 1st. |
Hi. My name is Brian Kinzeler and I recently just enlisted in the Army's delayed entry program as an 18X. I'm an Ohio native, recently graduated from college and I joined these forums because I felt like I could learn from the true Quiet Professionals. I thank you all for the opportunity to learn from you and for creating such a great educational forum.
Respectfully, BK |

Introduction
My name is Matt. Been in the Army for 15 years. 12 elisted and the last three as an LT. In the NG in TN. Looking to move up to Indy and transfer to 20th. Tryouts next month.
Was in Afghanistan last year and had a chance to work with a couple of teams and talk to a lot of the team guys. Like the way they handle business and cut out a lot of BS. Decided to make a life change when I got back and do what it takes to join the life. Took me a while to find the unit I want to go to and train up. Could use any advice and TTP's that may be out there. I'm no spring chicken, but what I lack in youth I make up in tenacity. Looking forward to checking this site for more Knowledge, I can never get to much of that. "Leaning forward in the foxhole" |

Hello
My name is Micah. I have never served in the military but I am interested in the SF. I am a sophmore at a two year college in Knoxville, TN, with majors in mathematics and chemistry. My dad is a MSG with SOCKOR, and he has been wanting me to enlist and go SF. I have tried to enlist for the past 4 years but I have not been successful. So I am looking for some guidance and direction. |
Introduction
Hello Sirs,
My name is Andrew, I'm 23 years old. I'm a senior at a University in Pennsylvania. I've been interested in joining the military since I was just a little guy. My father was a career AD Army soldier, so he is some of my inspiration for wanting to join. My dad was asked to join SFOD-D, and I think him telling me about that is what made me so curious to the SF community. (He turned them down though, as he was just starting our family at the time.) Every time I think about what I've wanted to do with my life, the only thing I can come up with is that I want to make a difference. In my eyes I believe the SF community does just that. That is my motivation and I know if I give it everything I've got and never give up that I will make it. I graduate in June with a degree in Business Information Systems. I'm a very inquisitive person, I love to learn. From that love I came upon this fantastic site, and I have found a lot of valuable information. I would like to say thank you to everyone here who keeps these boards run top-notch, you guys do a fantastic job. I've lurked for a few months on and off learning everything I can. What I'd like to get from being here is to understand more about the community of all the QPs out there. There is so much to learn from this site, not just knowledge but attitude, I've always been a person to ask a lot of questions so that I might understand things better. After reading a lot of what everyone has posted here it has helped me be a better listener, and I think as result better learner. I'd like to thank you all for your service to your respective countries. I am a very patriotic person and I believe being a serviceman is the most honorable profession there is. -Andrew |
crabofwar Intro
Hi all,
I'm Parker, and live in Virginia. I was only in the Army for 3 years. Two with SF. My tour in Vietnam was six months at B-42 in Chau Doc as admin officer. Second 6 months with C&C Fob 2, in Kontum. On paper I was company commander of a Yard company, and maybe for a very brief time the senior American at the Yard camp out of town. I went out with a ST a couple times, then went to HF for most of the rest. I never did anything exciting or brave (stupid, yes.). But, am very proud to have been with SF and SOG. In the field, I was bombed by US planes twice. Strafed by 50 cal from our Vietnamese navy once (during Tet). And minor hit from M-79 our point man used in hammer anvil "exercise". Got minor equipment damage from one of the Yards in my squad, when he chucked a grenade over my head. Damn near fragged by a friend behind the Yard camp, where he was practicing silently releasing grenade spoon. ( It was raining, and grenade slipped.) Enemy only tried to get me twice. But, they were more successful. Grenade frags while I was going to R&R through Da Nang. They hit the HQ the night I was there, so I spent R&R on the USS Sanctuary. |

I spent a bunch of time in the Chau Doc, AO. Flew a lot of missions in support of those people. We had been working that area since O dark thirty (one day), hot rearming, hot refueling, we were finally released and landed for hot lunch. My crew was refused lunch and told we could eat our cold "C" rats. So I bombed the mess hall with our "cold "C rat's". Caught a little hell from our BN Co (Bill Maddox), but he was laughing at the time. |
Quiet Professionals,
To all involved in this site a quick thank you for the wealth of information provided here. Currently I am a dismount M240B gunner in a Bradley platoon. I am not currently looking at trying out for SF, just trying to better myself as a soldier for a swift approaching deployment to Iraq. I also have worked as a EMT-I for the last three years part-time while going to school, so I am especially keen on lurking around the threads composed by you 18D's. Many thanks again for this great site, I plan on continuing to read frequently and speak little, if at all. Respectfully, PFC Harvey |
Hello all-
Here doing research. Went to college, got a good job, and despite that I'm still not entirely happy with where I am at...I've dreamed of being in the military since I can remember. I have my own reasons for wanting to serve, and I'm currently trying to decide if I can live with myself for not doing what I want to and doing what those closest to me think I should. I sincerely appreciate y'all for giving outsiders the chance to observe (and apparently all too frequently ask stupid questions prior to utilizing the search function) a little slice of life for the SF soldier. Regards, Matt |
Hello
I'm Morgan. I had considered SF before, but since I'm a female it isn't exaclty possible. I really enjoy your alls site; lots of info for civilians looking into the job and its interesting (not to mention a good humor). Thank you to all who serve, I know that freedom don't come free. Whether its the NG or AF, in a few years I plan to be a wearing uniform of the United States military.
Thanks again, patrioticgirl This will be my first and last post, since in the rules it discourged folks under the age of 17 to post and I joined to read information (and there is a lot on this site!). |

I'm a commo guy by trade and stumbled on this site while searching the net. So far it has been a great resource. I've been doing the job for about 15 years now and most of that in LRS units. I took a 3 year break from tactical comms but am back in the game now so the E threads will be my hangout.
I look forward to learning as much as I can. Chance |
