Vindicated? Trump-touted COVID-19 drug hydroxychloroquine works, according to new study

Well, well, well. Another study - and it's a tad critical of the other "studies".

"The anti-malaria drug that President Trump touted as a possible treatment for coronavirus, hydroxychloroquine, successfully lowered the death rate among hospitalized COVID-19 patients in the most recent study of the drug......"

"...The study scientists point out that other reports about hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for coronavirus that had less positive, mixed, or negative results studied different populations; administered hydroxychloroquine later during illness; used different doses, and/or were not peer-reviewed...."

Those who kept getting denigrated (and sometimes professionally censured) were always saying that the studies were flawed because the drug was being tested in a manner & protocol that it wasn't intended to fill. Academics just can't seem to resist getting in a food fight with clinicians.

Much of the response and (mis) information is now of the level of something I view as being perpetrated on the American people.

Fauci in February: "Stop buying & wearing masks!!! (because we need to horder them for our medical workers)."
Fauci in June: "ALL MASKS, ALL THE TIME!"
One analogy I read from one of the recent pieces lambasting these fake studies said:
"Trying to stop a viral particle with a cloth mask is like trying to stop a mosquito with a chain-link fence."
Hence my use of the term "perpetrated"

It went further than that...Remdesivir...isn’t living up to its expectations or cost.

Also non related but the newest strain G614 attacking Americans came from Europe not the other way around. So glad Europe is protecting itself from us. It’s more transmissible but not worse than gen IV (D614) as far as sickness and treatments go.

This thing mutates faster than a Ninja Turtle, I doubt they will ever come up with a vaccine before it’s just ruled a “bat flu” like “bird flu, swine flu, SARS, MERS, etc...” hopefully you don’t get it but if you do we can treat it.

I said weeks ago that the mechanism of action for HCQ indicates prophylactic/therapeutic efficacy. Molecular Biology rules! Those f'n dumbasses that make policy can't even begin to comprehend the underlying science! I am so damn tired of arguing with scientifically ignorant MDs about shit like this I could just scream!

I am devolving into a rant so I'll just stop. Well just one more thing.:p

I will be acquiring clinical data over the next few months and when the dumbasses come back asking How? [and they will] I'm just gonna hand 'em a number and tell 'em to get in line. :D

I saw a map that showed that where Malaria was, Wuhan Virus wasn't. I immediately bought quinine caps and tonic water. Can't know if it had any effect, but I've had them in the Army and survived so why not? (BTW, the claims that quinine is good for leg cramps is absolutely correct! Every time I took them I got leg cramps, so there's that.)

Mildly interested in that as well. The cocktail that I first recall "bursting" onto the public dialogue (done by a practicing clinician, not a political lab coat) was the Hcq, Azithromicin, and Zinc Sulfate.

Badger, the Azithromycin is used to treat any "opportunistic" bacterial infections that might have occurred along with the viral infection. I do have an article, from The Gateway Pundit about a Texas nursing home that handled the Who-Flung-Poo virus with that particular "cocktail" and had excellent success. The cost of this cocktail is @ $25.00 compared to the NIH antiviral costing @ $1500/dose Drug was developed for the Ebola virus at HIH/Allergy & Infectious disease Division in Bethesda MD.
