Meaning you know what to do first off. Read, listen and learn. Keep doing that and you'll do good. "Selected" is a great book from looking it over and reading the post s on here. Use it and get you security clearance stuff done. Search for it here, get a memory stick for it too. Good luck and keep us posted. Your future, start it off right. |
I have already talked to someone from this forum, who will be at Fort Benning with me as an 18x. I also wish the best of luck to anyone who will attempt to achieve greatness from that little paper with 18x on it. I just hope people will be as willing to help me as I am to help others. With great teamwork, everything can be accomplished better, faster, and thoroughly. I will be sure to track progress for all to see. Thanks Again.

Thanks
I haven't signed on here for awhile, but I wanted to drop a note to say thanks to all the SF types on this board. I am an X-Ray who just graduated the Q-course a few months ago. I have only posted here a handful of times, but over time (starting before I even began the whole 18X thing) I have gleaned an incredible amount of info from the experienced guys around here. So thanks for the info and to the guys waiting to go: look around this website, its one of the only places you will find the answers you are looking for. Good luck.

18B3V Candidate
On 28Sep06 I was sworn into C/2BN/19SFG as a prior-service NQP. My date for SFAS is undetermined yet. However, should be sometime Spring '07 once I complete BAC and earn my wings.
Over the months I have learned and continue to learn a wealth of knowledge both from the website and my mentor (18D instructor), as well as getting slammed a couple times :) . Gentlemen, thank you for your time and patience. My only wish is to one day earn the Green Beret and my long tab, as well as the respect of men such as you. Again, thank you for setting up this website and sharing your wisdom, stories, jokes, etc... with all of us. |

As soon as you get through BAC, and enter into the Pipeline let us know. Good Luck, and Take Care!!! Martin |
Healed Collarbone
18X 20070103
I'm glad to report that I got my renegotiation done today.:lifter After a worthless visit to one doctor, I tracked down one of the docs for the local college football team. I figured he should be pretty good. At first, I couldn't get an appointment because he was booked solid. I tracked down his e-mail address and sent him a message thinking he’d never read it. Luckily, I was wrong and he saw me three days later. Talk about service. Besides being a top-notch doc himself, he is good friends with an Air Force doc who has worked with quite a few PJ and Recon guys with broken collarbones. He took some time to look me over to see if anything indicated I would have issues with rucking. He said I should be good to go. The bone smoothed over nicely and has healed solid. Like everyone on here said, I was just better off doing what the doc said and healing up. You can’t rush it. I'm just glad to have a solid date and I'm anxious to get started. Until the 3rd I'll just continue keep the head down, PT like mad (safely), and stay off the mountain bike. :D |
Nuke-
Happy New Year! Getting started bright and early in January, don't party too hard NYE. Now, go ruck a few miles. |
Update to previous post...
Just got home from drill and will be going to Selection, April/May time frame.

Nov 27th SUT Class advice
If your attending SUT and have a Start date of Nov 27, make sure you take good note's and study, we have a Xmas break this cycle. Some students tend to forget everything we teach you while your on leave for the new years.

Finally, no longer an "18X"....okay, still an "x-ray", but at least I'm a 18D student. Thanks for everything guys.

Prior-service NQP
I posted over in the 20th Group thread that I was hired but thought I would post over here now that I have been to a few drills.
Without a doubt this was the best decision I have ever made in my life. For those of you that lurk here and read the posts and wonder what it would be like to wear the Green Beret, I tell you this. Pick it up. When I go to drill every month I'm surrounded two groups of men that strengthen my resolve and push me to improve myself mentally and physically. The Qualified guys who push us to not only meet the standard but set it, and the other Non-Quals in the program that share my drive and determination to live the dream of being SF. If for some reason I am not what Special Forces is looking for and I don't get selected, I will consider myself honored to have had the opportunity to be trained by and train along side some of the finest soldiers to ever put on any uniform. Do not let fear of failure keep you from attempting to walk the path. |

Thank you. Yes, I have been selected, I just mean that no matter what, thus far, we are still known as the "18Xs" is all.
Again, thanks for everything PS.com |
Just wrapped up SERE school. What an amazing experience. I had thought it was a "check the block" school, but boy was I suprised! Talk about an exercise in patriotism. I was blown away by the quality of the course and my own emotions for this great country.
Now I'm officially done with Phase II... bring on the Delta Course. D |

The entire time you are in SFQC, and God willing, SF, you will be learning; you will never be 'done' with anything, but constantly improving yourself, your skills, and your Teammate's skills. I wish I could get you to write an essay on why what I just wrote is so important to all of you SF Candidates. No worries, if what I wrote doen't sink in and rattle a nerve, your instructors and your Team Daddy will reinforce it. |
Can I re-phrase? Or is it too late to attempt to get back into the circle? :D
I couldn't agree with you more in what you said. I guess I was simply trying to put a status on my progress. Maybe, "I just met the requirements of the second phase of the Q course, and am now looking forward to maintaining, developing, and honing the skills learned there." would have been a better statement? D |
It took 7 months but I finally got it. 18X, 20061227. Grade waiver was approved so I get to keep my E5 and when I get to Benning I get to see if I'm repeating OSUT or not! :D
Thanks again for the words of wisdom and allowing me to lurk here and learn. Enjoy your holidays. Mike |
Mike,
Man that sucks, it took me about one week to get my waiver for E-5 and I have to got to Benning for 11B AIT, will be there 03APR2007. Good job on finally getting what you wanted and never quiting. B |
