Jonny Lang - anything. For starters, try the songs "Give Me Up Again" and "Red Light" from the "Long Time Coming" CD. He is a young guy with a old blues voice. Really amazing.
Also, if you've seen the movie "Lord of War" with Nicholas Cage, the entire soundtrack is great. It's an original composition. Additionally, try Citizen Cope, and (I saw this earlier, but I definitely second it) Ray LaMontagne. One of the most original vocalists alive. Try the song "Trouble" and his cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy." Both Ray LaMontagne and Damien Rice are good "gettin' it on" music. If you have any more targeted requests in any genre, please let me know. I'd be happy to help. |
For those with a penchant for The Pogues and Flogging Molly, the recent release by the Young Dubliners, "With All Due Respect", is a good choice, as is Great Big Sea's "Courage & Patience & Grit". The Young Dubliners' renditions of "The Leaving of Liverpool" and "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" are personal favorites from that CD.

If you like variations on the classicals :boohoo (i.e. Beethenoven, Wagner, Barber, Tchaikovskyet al) Look at Bond or Rondo Venziano or even DJ Tiesto (Techno / Trance version of Barber's Adagio for Strings[ (The theme from Platoon))
Bond: Duel Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture Rondo Venziano: Rondo Veneziano - La Serenissima (Theme From 'Venice In Peril') excerpt YouTube Adajio for Strings: DJ Tiesto - YouTube Possibly DJ Stimulant (And No XXX No I do not do "X" :D, this is the music of Asia :p (and a number of clubs in the Midwest)) Technically - Bond could not be considered an "Unknown", as you can buy their albums at major commercial stores (much like DJ Tiesto) however, compared to the number of people who do know of them (much less Rondo Veneziano) they are relatively "Unknown") V/R, |

I thought this would be a good place for this tune. Unknown to me, but something familiar, yet old and new again. They appear to be enjoying them selves.

soundtracks
I've always been fan of sountracks. Great soundtracks have been made for movies, and even for video games. Never knew the game and still don't care thereafter, but some serious work must have gone to it.
Arnhem Knights by Michael Giacchino, here effectively used to Saving Private Ryan clip. Wait for the crescendo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8c5a9N4Ab_4 That's classical genre, and here's heavy metal to the same movie. Primo Victoria by Sabaton http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrJAwCBbnuc |
This is a GREAT Band!!!! After you listen to this song I pasted another at the end of the lyrics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4bCn...eature=related This is a live performance of "Big White Gate" by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals which recently aired on the excellent all HD commercial free cable channel RAVE-HD. The song, written for her grandmother, is from the Nocturnals new album "This Is Somewhere" on Hollywood Records. Well worth purchasing, as there is not a bad song on it. (Not my comment) Big White Gate lyrics: My body's acing from laying in this bed, I went singing in the rain and the cold got to my head. I don't know who's paying I just know what the doctor said, 84 years of a sinning life and in the morning I'll be dead. I had three daughters, A new man for every one. The only man that I ever loved, Left me with my only son. I was a no good mother, I was a no good wife, There's only one thing that I did right in this godforsaken life. Saint Peter won't you open up the big white gate, Cause I heard about forgiveness and I hope it ain't too late. I ain't no holy roller but you go tell your king, That all the folks up in heaven might like to hear me sing. I sang to my children, Before they strayed so far. I sang for my lovers, Or a nickel in a tip jar. I never knew Jesus, I never read the good book. But on my day of dying, I'm giving life a second look. Saint Peter won't you open up the big white gate, Cause I heard about forgiveness and I hope it ain't too late. I ain't no holy roller but you go tell your king, That all the folks up in heaven might like to hear me sing. It's coming on time now, My body's getting cold. I've got no will I've got no prayer, My story's all been told. I'm ready for the land of fire, But I'd love to see the land of gold. So nurse bring me my guitar, One more song before I go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1PpR...eature=related |
