Sir, having only met you here, spoken with you on several occasions and with our fellow Brothers at arms with whom you served, I can say that you are a stalwart of our Brotherhood!! You epitomized the SF and to an even greater degree the SF Officer, the "Alpha". You will be missed, but also remembered, and your wisdom will live on through many of us in the way that we conduct our lives.

Godspeed Brother, God bless you and your's, and I will be looking for you and the others at the RP, just off of that final DZ!!

I first met Bulldog in ’83, and was fortunate to have 2 assignments under his command. I spoke with him 2 weeks ago to ask for his personal Bio and photos in order to submit him for the Distinguished Member of the Regiment (DMOR). Reluctant at first, he said he only wanted to do right by those he served with. Being remarkably humble, he gave the credit for being the person he was to the Special Forces soldiers he served with. I’ll continue to have his named placed as DMOR only now it will be awarded posthumously. Last week we joked that he thought he’d be entering the Hall of Fame for the over 65 bench Press. He could still throw down plates with the best as depicted in his photos.

He always led from the front as an example of how to command. He set high standards for those who wished to remain under his command but never standards he didn’t hold himself to as well. He could send and receive Morse code at 10+/10+; he could calculate explosive charges, start an IV in a stressful environment, lead a rucksack march and buy the first round of beer at the end. He could move, shoot and communicate with his teams and that’s usually where you’d find him, alongside his teams. When we went home he’d go back to the office to do his paperwork.

I believe most of us here will keep his memory alive and realize we are and were better soldiers for the wisdom he shared. Thank you for remembering a fallen warrior.

If I may add to your eloquent comments about Colonel Moroney, I would like to say that those of us who have never been in armed service have also benefited from the colonel's wisdom.

I'm unqualified to say what makes a man a noble warrior. (I'd guess he would look pretty much like the colonel.) I can say confidently that Jack Moroney was the epitome of a citizen--a person whom all Americans could unashamedly admire.

Thank you for your service, sir.

May the country never forget you or others like you.

Looking back on several of the COL's posts, I realized that his last "log in" was about 0545 the morning of 27 Oct 08.

He was checking in on all of us to ensure that we were okay.

Three Soldier Dad...Chuck

It is approaching one week since I was shocked to learn of Colonel Moroney's passing.

I have been searching for ways to express my thoughts, especially since I feel that it is only fitting to do so since we have lost one of our master wordsmiths, but nothing seems adequate. ( I, too, was among the many who 'begged' Colonel Jack to write a book... and as Razor noted some time ago, when the Colonel said in a post that he 'just' has some thoughts and notes in a zipped up binder, wouldn't we all wish to be able to read what it contained. ).

The Reaper and Team Sergeant were eloquent in their words that opened this thread. Yet, I kept thinking that so many of the words used by the Quiet Professionals to describe Colonel Jack, could also be used by many of us on this board who are civilians and came to know him through PS.com. He was a mentor, a teacher (of many subjects), a friend to us, as well.

Re-reading many of the Colonel's posts this past week has been a moving, and sometimes difficult, experience. However, what it has been most of all was a reminder that for those words that the Colonel wrote for our benefit not to have been in vain or a waste of his time, then it is up to me (personally and also as a teacher) to put many of his lessons to work when I can.

To the Quiet Professionals here, please accept my condolences on the loss of your brother.

To Mrs. Moroney, his sons and daughter, his grandchildren and the rest of his family, please accept my deepest sympathies.

And to Colonel Jack, thank you for everything.

A true loss for both the country and the state of Vermont - which could definately use more gentlemen like COL Jack.

He recently tutored me when I was interviewing for a company command and his words were spot on. I feel both blessed to have learned from him and cheated that I never worked for him. A roll model for any young officer. Thank you Sir. Blue skies.

Col Moroney and his family were certainly on our minds as we stood in line this morning to cast our votes. I think its very fitting that my district votes at the VFW.

My wife and I both lurk this forum and are grateful for the wisdom he shared here with us.
