The main reason I was uninterested was because I didn't really know much about SF. And that recruiter sure did act a whole lot like a regular Army recruiter. Then his boss SFC B. spoke to me, gave me some better info, and now I'm getting divorced and going SF. (The wife wanted me to be stuck in perpetual unfulfill-ment.)

I've been hanging out for a while and finally decided to take the leap and post an intro. I was in 1/75 A co and HHC Oct 00- Oct 03. I couldn't find enough Rangers to hang out with :D so I had to come back in w/ 5/19. I just got selected class 06-07 and am looking to go back for the Q for the Sep class. Thanks for all the advice, now back to reading.

I have been a lurker on these forums as a guest for quite a while now and decided to finally register with my upcoming entrance into the United States Army.

A little about me. My name is Ryan, I am 19 years old, and on July 12th, 2007 I will leave my hometown of Wixom, MI for Fort Leonard Wood to begin basic combat training. I have signed up as a 68W with an option 40. Eventually I may attempt to pursue a career change to that of an 18D but that is not my main focus at this point in time.

I just wanted to say thanks to all the quiet professionals who run this site and enlighten us all in your free time. This forum is a wealth of knowledge and should not be taken for granted.

I will continue to make the most out of every opportunity presented before me and hope that one day I may find myself in the company of men as professional and motivated as those I have seen on this board.

I'm surprised that some of you know OHZ. It was a very small post there.
Is has gotten a lot quieter here with all the soldiers being gone. L.d.Clay is a german Kaserne now. I work in Bremerhaven and the post there is a big Container terminal now. I'm sure the ones that know OHZ also know Bremerhaven.
But there are some good memories there. ;)

Introduction
 

I have been "lurking" for awhile, just attempting to learn as much about the SF community as possible. My son is an 18D, currently at Ft. Campbell with the 5th Group. This site has been really a great deal of help in understanding some of the training aspects of SF. Thanks for putting together a great site that helps us Civvies better understand the Quiet Professionals. I had the opportunity to meet several Quiet Professionals at the Blade Show in the Chris Reeve knife booth. Great people for sure and inspirational as well. Keep up the great work on this site...........I'll go back to lurking in the weeds.

Hello all,

I've been a soldier in the conventional Army since July 2006 (almost a year now). I'm 25 years old, by the way. Recently, I've been increasingly more serious about possibly applying to go to SFAS in a couple years. I'm in Military Intelligence (SIGINT), which I'm only semi-proud of. Most privates here did not join the Army out of desire to be in the Army (but I did). So some of them do not take stuff like PT seriously. I want to be the best soldier I can. I want to do intel, but MI isn't enough for me. I did some serious research into Special Forces, and I loved what I read. I want to go SF not because it's the toughest job in the Army, or for any possible recognition, but because it's what I want to do. I joined the Army in the first place because I was tired I being a civilian, and personally, I find working for money alone your entire life is a complete waste. I joined to make something of myself, to do something significant. I'm not here for the money. Although most privates here would never have signed up if it weren't for the money. My roommate can't understand why anyone who isn't poor would join the military.

SFAS, the Q-course, and the SF life, should I make it that far, will be challenging for me. But I am committed. Mentally, I think I'm pretty much there. It's the physical part I need to work on. Some of my disadvantages currently are low PT score (currently 220, but I'm going to get it up to 300, that's relatively easy), fear of heights (but I'm confident I can overcome it), don't have the best balance skills, and maybe a couple other things I can't think of right now.

From what I know, it looks like the obstacle course will be the hardest part, physically at least. I'll be sure to be in near the best possible shape before I give it a try.

Well, that's me. I'm going to give SF my best.

Hello everyone!

Been in the AF for a little less than 5 years. I spent the last 4 years in Germany and moved to just recently to Idaho. Currently I work in Communications, but that is all changing in the next few weeks. I was picked up for SERE Specialist and will be going to the INDOC course in July. After that I will PCS up to Fairchild AFB Washington and complete the pipeline. (Jump/Airborne). When faced with forced seperation from the AF, I started putting together plans to stay in uniform because I truly believe in what we are fighting for. One Was retraining into CCT or SERE, and if those fell through, seeing if I could get a blue to green program that could guarantee me the 11B MOS with Airborne and Ranger qualed (Don't know if you can actually get guaranteed a Ranger slot). That may still pan out, never know how this new job is gonna go!.
Physical Fitness is a lifestyle for me, do crossfit style workouts along with running, calisthenics, swim, and rucking. Gotta have the weight on the back.

Lots of great info and I look forward to learning as well as contributing.
