Early 80’s energy pipeline deal smashed by Reagan Western Europe pushing hard for Libya intervention to diversify supply Russia/Turkey nexus(unthinkable years ago) to monopolise EU access to energy out of Central Asia. BUT, the implosion of OPEC and collapse of energy prices puts Russia at risk in the same way the Oil Glut of the 80’s directly contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union a few years later. Russia is utterly dependent on oil export revenue(higher energy prices) to maintain power. The same applies to Iran. China wants/needs cheap energy to keep the machine going. I think that’s where their key economic interests diverge significantly. If China lost a few hundred million old folks it would rebalance the artificial lump of old people in the demographic chart from long term one-child policy. But it would eliminate a lot of energy consumers as well. Common enemies align, but incongruent economic interests disrupt. Perhaps there is another “only Nixon could go to China” moment in the next few years. |

Hope this the the spot to put this thought, but am going to give a huge Thank You right now to all QP's over the years here for the incredible wisdom in threads like Be Prepared! While other's are fighting at the stores and in panic mode over Covid19, those of us fortunate enough to have access to this site are prepared and have plenty of gloves, sanitizers, paper goods, canned good, batteries, hydration etc... (Alcoholic beverages included for some.);) Shout Out to PS for allowing us regular folks to have access to your intelligence to learn from. Know am not the only one who feels this way.:lifter Ok, back to the Wuhan Virus latest.. Holly |

In the worst case situation of no hospital available, can a "disposable" ventilator be hooked up to something like a high-enough pressure oxygen concentrator to do the job? Obviously the pump must be oil-free & filtered; you can't hook up to your Craftsman air tool compressor. |

Probably the most widely read book by Therapists. It covers the vent questions you have and the aerosol questions earlier in the thread that you had: > https://www.amazon.com/Egans-Fundame.../dp/0323341365 Sorry for the sidetrack...... |
Evidence for asymptomatic transmission hits mainstream
Article lists several independant observations:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/14/healt...ead/index.html One calculates 2-3 days before symptoms show. Also France urges not to use anti-inflammatory type fever reducers. Recommends Acetaminophen. |
If you work with Vents, here's some good info if your facility gets overrun. How to ventilate multiple patients with one ventilator, good stuff:

Most of us regulars on the forum take for granted being prepared for most situations because it is a way of life. We have built in resistance to mental and physical discomfort or coming up with novel solutions to a problem because we have had to deal with life in other countries that do not have convenience of shopping anytime you want or even clean water like here in the USA. Unfortunately that is not the norm for the rest of the population, Any disruption turns into madness and stress. Simple things to lower that stress, are planting a garden like our grandparents did even a very small one. Air 3 min, hypothermia 3 hours, water 2-3 days, food 3 weeks, Most emergencies pass or civilization has fallen apart in 3 months. general rules but not always the case. 3 months is ironically about the time it takes for a major food crop to be available from sowing in the ground to store front for world populations in the right circumstances. MOD's feel free to move this post to Field craft |

QP's are resiliency in action, IMHO. :) This Wuhan virus thread contains many course corrections in it, as it is a very fluid situation right now IMHO??? Heck, my bro just flew in from a pre planned trip from Egypt via London, Canada, MN, on Friday night. Should we still have our family gathering here at the house with steaks and Ham? We are saying yes. We are prepared. Not fearful. Edit to add: The government is saying to trust in them for treating and results via a telephone call...from them. Hmmmm. Just does not seem very amenable. Holly:munchin |

More data on mask effectiveness
Pre-emptive low cost social distancing and enhanced hygiene implemented before local COVID-19 transmission could decrease the number and severity of cases.
Dalton 5MAR20 https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....act_id=3549276 The use of masks outside of health settings is controversial and it is important that masks not be diverted from health care supplies. However, surgical masks are protective of large droplet spread and have approximately half the effectiveness of N95 mask for small droplet transmission, and are suggested to be cost saving in some modelled pandemic influenza scenarios. NOTE 20 They may have a limited role in the community setting prior to widespread transmission if there are adequate supplies and should be considered for use in households caring for COVID-19 cases at home.
