Dear sir/sergeant,

I was wondering what the attrition rates were for the 18xs vs. regular enlisted men for SFAS. If it is possible to get back to me without violating opsec/persec I would appreciate it.

Thanks

What difference could it possibly make to you?

Attrittion is a collective stat, you are an individual, Mr. Mind Over Matter.

TR,

On my behalf, no excuse. The question was just out of curiosity. I understand now.

thanks

Intruder 09-24-2004 15:00

Fair enough..

Just checking in. I'm currently in SFQC 1A. We're headed toward our 3rd week; more Land Nav. I'm under Sergeants XXXXX and XXXXXXX. Both seem very fair and decent men.
Basic and Airborne were a joke in comparison (as we're reminded by the cadre almost daily). I really enjoy being here (minus the gig-pit :boohoo ). If this is just a taste of how the SF community is, I'm glad I chose it. Thanks to everyone on this board for your advice, its been helpful in deed.

...Back to grayman staus....

Not a REP 63, or an 18x. However, hopefully I fit the intent of the thread. Prior service (line medic), Reserves (Civil Affairs; NY and great experiences abroad with some great BTDT's and "others"), inter-service transfer to NG; C Co 1 Bn 20th SFG (ABN).

18-D wanna-be. SFAS IA 23NOV04, SFAS IB 11JAN05.

SOPC class is bursting at the seams. No seat reserved. Request disapporoved.

New update:

18E Selectee Here! :lifter
Currently at SOPC II starting our 2nd week.

Is it possible/ what are the odds I can change to a Charlie (or Bravo) when I get to Student Co.? I think EVERYBODY in our (SOPC) class got what they wanted except me :boohoo and maybe a few others. My squads' TAC said I could change it once I get to Student Company. True?

gits 11-15-2004 17:31

Nice work intruder.

Achilles 11-15-2004 17:34

Great job man!! Keep it up and GL in Phase II!!

Surgicalcric 11-15-2004 19:24

Congrats Intruder.

Our SOPC I class passed by you guys standing out from of the Schoolhouse yes?

Best of luck in PH-2.

What greater pleasure could there be other than making comms where and when comms are not supposed to be makeable? :munchin

Allegedly walking onto Class 003 (11Jan05), and not attending SOPC; per "higher." SFAS IA request denied d/t class size bursting at the seams. SFAS IB reservation still in ATRRS. Wahooo!

Still an 18-D wanna-be

Are you an SF Candidate or not?

daquat 11-16-2004 19:58

Not an SF candidate yet. I'm scheduled to attend SFAS. I'll believe It when I have the orders in my hands.

There apparently was a black hole in the computer system. Allegedly I am still on track to attend SFAS in January, without having to attend SOPC I. I apologize if my previous post was not clear.

NousDefionsDoc 11-16-2004 20:15

Ok. Where are you now?

daquat 11-16-2004 20:23

I'm physically in NY. I transferred to 20th SFG (Massachusetts) ~June 04. I'm waiting to head South to Ft. Bragg for SFAS and beyond.

I'll give you more Hx if you are interested. I've been a "lurker" on this site and am reluctant to hijak this thread.

NousDefionsDoc 11-16-2004 20:26

So you're NQP in the 20th?

daquat 11-16-2004 20:29

yes.

Achilles 11-23-2004 13:09

Couple buddies and I are leaving then for OSUT also... Mind filling out your profile?

Blood&Guts 11-29-2004 09:16

My bad Achilles, slipped my mind. It looks like we will be at OSUT together then. Get back to me on e-mail so I will know how to find you.How many buddies? All of you 18X. I heard they will put all the 18x in one platoon, do you have any more information on that.

Question for everyone else, How long do you stay in the Reception Battalion?

Can you keep up your running in Reception, I hear they will not let you run. It only takes a week or so for me to get out of shape. :lifter

Achilles 11-29-2004 14:02

I *THINK* reception is a week. OSUT starts on 1/6 if my paperwork is correct. Also I've heard conflicting reports on whether they group all 18X's together during basic.

Shoot me a PM and I'll give you names.

HTH

Intruder 11-29-2004 17:25

They sorta group em together. I was in a Co that had a platoon and a half of 18xers. But the other Co that graduated with us was ALL 18Xers... 4 platoons, 200-something 18Xers. I guess our platoon(s) were the excess...

As for Reception, I know it was only a week for us. You're on a schedule, so they zip you in and out. I know there were guys I talked to who were there upwards of 5 weeks. But I guess it depends.

I was in a company at OSUT with two full platoons of 18x's. It shouldn't take you more than a week at reception, unless some paperwork or administrative bs is out of order...and if it really just takes you a week to get out of shape, you better stop reading this and do more PT and hope you don't get stuck there. They don't allow running or PT while your'e there, so you have to do it when your stuck in your bay awaiting the next accountability formation (weekends). They do have a Fat, Tired, and Useless, er, I mean, a Fitness Training Unit for those who can't pass the simplest of PT tests.

turboprop 11-29-2004 23:06

In my company they broke up 18x's into two platoons with about 20 each. Some of us were at 30th AG for up to 3 weeks. It was pretty bad. Have fun.

Blood&Guts 11-30-2004 07:04

Thanks for all the answers! But Weazle when you ASSUME you make an ass of yourself. All I said was I do not like to miss a week of running and will they let you run. A simple question requiring a simple answer. Maybe you should stop posting until you learn some manners!

Anyway. thanks again for the answers!

Actually, you did say "It only takes a week or so for me to get out of shape."

Looks to me like he just answered your question, and I read it the same as Weazle did.

Until you are an airborne soldier, I recommend you stop cracking wise, complaining about the answers to your questions, and offering guidance to those who have made the cut and are going off to war.

Have a very SF day.

Did you read the stickies etc on all the forums? If you did, why isn't your profile filled in?

What is your status?

Blood&Guts 11-30-2004 11:14

Alright, I may have been out of line there. My apologies all around, I did not intend to offend anyone but it seemed like a sarcastic answer with reference to the FTU and everything. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you guys and please don't judge me by this one stupid comment. Thanks Reaper for calling me out on that one!
God Bless!!

turboprop 11-30-2004 11:51

oh shit!

Should have kept my mouth shut. Since I've been called out, I'm currently in language school. Shouldn't have drawn fire, being a sopc kid and all (I guess phase 1A these days), I'll creep back into the shadows now. Profile is filled in, sorry about that.

No worries, that is what I am here for. Just one Tarheel helping another.

Now move out and draw fire.

Best of luck.

The Reaper and NousDefionsDoc,

I just wanted to drop you gentlemen a quick line and say 'thank you' for all of your advice and help during the SF pipeline. I know you hear from many of the 18x'ers before they take off to training but I wanted you to hear from one that is finally finished! (By the way, it is possible to finish even as an 18D :p ) I am reporting next week to an SFGroup The Reaper and Doc are very familiar with.

(The new site is great!)

NousDefionsDoc 11-30-2004 15:00

Well congratulations! And even going to the right Group! I couldn't be happier for you.

Now the work begins. :p

Weazle23 11-30-2004 20:37

TitratetoEffect congrats!!

Blood&Guts, no worries. Welcome to the board.

TR, thanks again.

ender18d 12-16-2004 20:51

Done

I'd just like to tip my hat to every man and woman working out at SERE. I can't say enough good things about that course and how much I've learned.

So now the real learning will begin.

Thanks to all on this board, especially the cadre that trained me. I was always fortunate to be connected with cadre and more experienced students that could mentor me in the ways I needed. On that note, if anyone knows where I can get in touch with the *I think* now retired MSG NCOIC of BNCOC in 2003, I'd appreciate the opportunity to send a specific thanks for his example and support.
