While engaged in a conversation with a Obamite during my commute I told her that the American people should be prepared for the let-down as reality sinks into the young senator's world. The blank stare was priceless...

I'm in Europe at the moment and the excitement over him is palpable. You cannot engage anyone in conversation without the topic inexorably gravitating to an Obama/Bush comparison.

"What do you think he's really going to do?" is my favorite question.

I never really get any answer - of course.

Racial equality is about to proven sure enough, but not in the anticipated way:

People are about to see that being black in the Oval Office doesn't guarantee success any more than being white in the same post does.

I predict: a muddle through the next four years with a specious trend towards socialism, but nothing spectacular.
