I'm glad my comment did not sound flippant. We are now far from the woods where we lived and have more of an opportunity to see "protests" if we cared. The Twin Cities seem to have folks not at work with the time to protest this or that.

When they're not demonstrating they're looking through the Mnpls or Chicago craigslist for more employment opportunities. Back when the legislature here passed an act that would actually require teachers to pay something/anything for their health insurance :eek: there were several thousand demonstrators in the capitol. A few hundred from the local Univ (because, why not?) and others were made up of people earning some temp bucks, charter-bussed in from both those cities. When they'd gotten what they wanted from the news-cycle, they disappeared & went back home looking for another gig.

As I mentioned, the higher level orgs involved have the resources & don't mind throwing them around to repeat a lie du jour as often as they feel the need to.

The Electoral College might be the last wall of defense against the crazed hoard. The day it is removed the after effects will be like a swarm of locusts.

Ben Franklin once said. Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to eat for dinner. Liberty is a well armed sheep". Way back in the day the framers of the constitution debated at length on how to protect the small from the large. One solution ,as is the current construct, was to provide 2 Senators per state.

Without digging around on the bookshelf I believe those 2 senators were originally to be appointed by the state legislatures (and subject to their recall at the state's choosing). And you're right; there was much gnashing of teeth over that.

Many states have their own version of "flyover" country; 1 or 2 major metro hives who think they run the state (and sometimes do) with more rural/small-suburban towns in the actual bulk of the real estate. NY, IL, and CA are the shining examples of that (their biggest power centers aren't even the state capital). But many states have the same problem.
