"an ethnic group; a social group that shares a common and distinctive culture, religion, language" The same thing can be said about any tribe, group, association, gathering, religious cult/myth/believers. And would make any/all of the two thousand religious myths of the world “ethnic” groups. “jewish ethnicity” is right up there with “hate speech” it’s just a label to embolden their followers (and haters) and alert the world of their perceived status and world standing. I’ll not partake............ Believing in a myth does not make an ethnic group. Don’t really care how one labels it. Calling the jewish cult/religion an ethnic group only enhances their professed world status. This makes the NRA, Army, Navy, Marines, a Square dance club, Sex Cult, Furries, NASCAR etc ethnic groups. I’d just call them what they are, a “social group” and not “water down” the facts. One is not born a jew, muslim, christian, satanist, Furry, NRA member, democrat, etc. (And I’m sure all will tell you different....) One chooses to partake of that social group. That said one born in a geographic location is in fact a “citizen” of that country. Let me know when the “jew” gene is found, or the muslim, christian, satanic, or Furry gene….. One is born into a race, not a belief. |
First of all, there is not a "Jew gene". FWIW, there is not a specific gene that identifies people from the African continent, either (either those still living there, or those brought here as slaves 200 years ago)
However, if you want to talk genetics, I WILL tell you that Ashkenazi Jews have several genes in different frequencies than Eastern Europeans who lived around them for thousands of years - for example, there are several genetic diseases that are almost unknown except amongst the Ashkenazi. Even if they don't go to Temple. Even if they don't CHOOSE to have those genes. I'm sorry, boss, I have to say, not only are you wrong, but science says you're wrong. Jewish ethnicity is not a "choice" any more than Armenian ethnicity is.... |
Again, with that “ethnicity” word. And again, it can apply to just about any “social group” of individuals on the planet. The labels are just semantics, one can categorize a group of individuals with any identifier/tag they wish.
eth·nic·i·ty the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition. Race is associated with biology, whereas ethnicity is associated with culture. What’s missing is the biological link such as race. And yes I’m sure that the Ashkenazi Jews share genes as do many in the jewish faith. That what happens when individuals share the same social construct for centuries. Jew·ish relating to, associated with, or denoting Jews or Judaism. Ethnicity is the term for the culture of people in a given geographic region, including their language, heritage, religion and customs. To be a member of an ethnic group is to conform to some or all of those practices. Jewish is not a race, it’s a culture, belief, a social group. Spend enough time together even the Furries will begin to share genes. And in keeping with this thread, calling someone a racist for hating someone else’s “culture” is unintelligent and dead wrong. But it’s the left-wing/socialist way to do business. |

I think that any “group” that self-restricts” marriage / courtship outside of that “group” for a few thousand years would have long term genetic problems, based entirely on the intra-family gene transfer. That may, or may not, be a function of a “religion”. Think Aboriginal Australians, Papua New Guinea, Brazil’s Amazon uncontacted tribes. I believe, but do not know firsthand, that in the U.S., gene testing of both prospective spouses is now a part of the courtship / proposal process in certain Jewish groups. SnT Quote:

GENETICS: Since you referenced the topic ????
GENE: A sequence of DNA or RNA which codes for a molecule that has a function. During Gene expression, The DNA is first copied into RNA. The RNA can be directly functional or be the intermediate template for a protein that performs a function. The transmission of genes to an organism's offspring is the basis of inheritance of phenotypic traits (e g Hair color). These genes make up different DNA sequences called genotypes.Underlying genes, which make up the genotype, determine the hair color, but the hair color observed is the phenotype. Genotypes along with environmental and developmental factors determine what the phenotypes will be. Most biological traits are under the influence of polygenes(many different genes) as well as gene- environment interactions. Some genetic traits are instantly visible, such as eye color, or the number of limbs, and some are not, such as blood type, risk for specific diseases, or the thousands of basic biochemical processes that constitute life. Genes can acquire mutations in their sequence, leading to different variants, known as alleles, in the population. These alleles encode slightly different versions of a protein, which causes different phenotypical traits.Usage of the term "having a gene" typically refers to a different allele of the same, shared gene.Genes evolve due to natural selection or survival of the fittest of the alleles. tom kelly

As I understand racial makeup the Jews so to speak are inherently of the same basic family of most of the Mediterranean tribes which include southern europeans, middle eastern people and northern africans. And here we go again with the defense of liberals |
This discussion has gone a bit down the rabbit hole. We can quibble about genetic drift and the dictionary definition of "ethnicity" all you want. Fascinating subject but not germane to the discussion.
The federal government defines "hispanic" as an ethnicity. Are you next going to insist that people "choose" whether or not to be hispanic? The FACT is, is that people do not _choose_ to be born a Jew. They may choose whether or not to practice the religion of Judaism, but the Jews are a distinct group (there, to keep TS happy I didn't use the trigger word <g>) of people... and they did not "choose" to be Jewish any more than I "chose" to be the northern/western/eastern european mutt that my heritage is. To return full circle to the start of the thread, I am very happy that we have a robust First Amendment here in the US. But I understand and respect that fact that the European countries have different histories & traditions, and they still manage to have fairly robust freedom of speech guarantees while outlawing certain forms of expression that we still allow here. |
You can "leave" a culture or ethnic background, you cannot leave a race.

Less than 1 in 20
Fewer than one in 20 street robberies and burglaries are being solved by police, new figures reveal
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...es-reveal.html Well, it does look like Brits have lost their minds. To put up with this crap is beyond words. "...Official police data shows that just four per cent of robberies and three per cent of burglaries were solved in England and Wales in 2017. The figures will fuel concerns that there is a crisis in the nation's policing, with one MP describing London as 'the Wild West'..." Way at the bottom you'll find that gun crime is up 11%. Thought they got rid of guns. |

Europe in general - Britain specifically - is a fine example of what happens to a society when it begins to cultivate a culture that fighting for ANY cause is better than no cause at all.
I'd say the USA is on its way down that road -nut we are far too socially aware; far too enlightened; far too cosmopolitan for that to happen in America. Existential dissatisfaction. Nothing more nothing less. I want to matter. I need to make an impact. My self-worth is a few points low today and I need a boost. ...turn in your guns ...save the whales ...no more nukes ...my body my choice ...equality and diversity ...black lives matter ...think of the children ...bring out your dead Some people live meaningless lives and need to feel "validated" just so they can sleep at night - they can't just let sleeping dogs lie - so they stir up shit. To hell with how the dog feels about it Then they act surprised when the 'dog' bites them' - and it reaffirms how important their cause is... ...and if that means robbing YOU of your free speech so that MY cause can be advanced then so be it. At least until my NEXT cause comes along - so I can crusade for another cause - and another and another Ok - I feel better now. |
