My thoughts exactly, Al. Either the agencies responsible for determining the facts are lying or incompetent....perhaps both.

Or possibly that when the administration WANTS to discover the facts, they do, and if they don't, they procrastinate, redirect, misdirect, ignore, deny, etc.

The 'proof' that Jacques Kerry is speaking of is weapons grade Sarin...they are postulating that Assad could be the only source and that is BS.
My only hope is that Al Q uses the Saudi supplied Sarin and Assad uses his Soviet stash and we have a nice contained gas war in Syria.
Shia's Twelver's and Sunni AQ surrogates killing each other should only be encouraged.
Count on US to screw that wet dream up.

You forgetting all the chemical munitions Saddam Hussein stashed in Syria in 1990/91? :munchin

My guess would be that Assad never gave Iraq back the WMD's that they gave him for "safe keeping".......

Personally to make it fair for both sides I say we arm both sides with Chem weapons and launchers.......;)

PRB 09-01-2013 22:56

Would be a good guess on some of Assad's stuff.
No launchers tho...chem hand grenades should do nicely.

I would like to see the current administration verify that, I have been led to believe that those weapons never existed.

For which war - Desert Shield/Storm (GHWB) or Iraqi Freedom (GWB)? I have never heard anyone say they didn't exist for the former.

There are from way back in November 2010 and was in regards to the 2012 elections.....but Obama is still dealing with the same problems at home.

Quote:

“Remember, President Clinton reconnected through Oklahoma, right?” Penn said, appearing on MSNBC’s Hardball on Thursday. “And the president right now seems removed. It wasn’t until that speech [after the bombing] that [Clinton] really clicked with the American public. Obama needs a similar — a similar kind of … Yeah.”

What else might affect the economy? The answer is obvious, but its implications are frightening. War and peace influence the economy.

Look back at FDR and the Great Depression. What finally resolved that economic crisis? World War II.

Here is where Obama is likely to prevail. With strong Republican support in Congress for challenging Iran's ambition to become a nuclear power, he can spend much of 2011 and 2012 orchestrating a showdown with the mullahs. This will help him politically because the opposition party will be urging him on. And as tensions rise and we accelerate preparations for war, the economy will improve.
Quote:

I am not suggesting, of course, that the president incite a war to get reelected. But the nation will rally around Obama because Iran is the greatest threat to the world in the young century. If he can confront this threat and contain Iran's nuclear ambitions, he will have made the world safer and may be regarded as one of the most successful presidents in history.

One year later, I'll repeat that too - ONE YEAR LATER - Families are still asking how and why their loved ones died in Benghazi Libya ...
... sigh ...

You sir are obviously not watching the hand they want you to watch. Shame on you.

There's a lot of dead Iraqi civilians that would disagree..... Saddam gassed the hell out of his own people. And when we were coming he got rid of the chems, my guess was he sent truck loads of chem munitions to Syria. Why? Cause Syria provided a whole lot of weapons and ammo for Saddam's military.

A theory with legs but, not pursued by Bush (or anyone else) at the time.

Syria and U.S. involvement

As we learned the hard way, to universally provide unlimited arms support to the oppressed can bite us in the ass. We provided virtually unlimited arms to the mujhadin in Afghanistan to oppose the Russian Bear. For the past 12 years, those weapons have killed/wounded thousands. Enough of history.

"Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it." We SHOULD provide almost universal doses of unliumited Atropine syrettes. There is no way for blowback and for any regret for our assistance. It gives the rebels an opportunity to survive future Sarin attacks. It also provides tangible evidence that the U.S. is providing humanitarian support.

The U.S. support of the rebels should be limited to humanitarian only.

Any and ALL combative support should be in conjunction with any coalition that is cobbled together. With the exception of being an oil terminous, Syria has minimal direct threat to U.S. interests in soil or populations. Therefore we should limit ourselves to areas of supporting the warfighter. We have the capabilities for: Medical; Logistics: Intelligence; air assets (as necessary) to include explosive stores.

SIGINT vessels & muddy waters

The opposite of "just following orders"...?
Handelsblatt article and some rough "auf Englisch" snippets:
Quote:

Cruising of the Syrian coast, the German navy spy ship Osker, A 53,
intercepted Syrian military radio communications and learned that the poison gas attacks requested by army officers in the field were always rejected by the [high command]. Thus, the deadly poison gas attack killing many was likely not by the command of President Assad.

Currently, the Western states debate a strong response to the Syrian use of chemical weapons banned by international law. US President Obama wants a military strike. The European Union wants to wait for the report of the UN inspectors before taking action.

LINK to English Reuters reporting
Interesting that such SIGINT take makes its way from BND to the papers that quickly.

We're all on the same chess board, right?
