Crye Body Armor Users
Has anyone seen or happen to have the Crye body armor?? Crye Precision site:
http://www.cryeprecision.com/categor...art=&priceend= It states their armor is "We’ve combined flexible armor and molded foam pads with exclusive new front and back plates to create a patented system providing passive cooling, mobility, and full side coverage." Looks great.. just like to see some insight from a owner or user. Some good PIX of the "kit" on SPECWARGEAR http://www.specwargear.com/armor&vest.html Also I found a Blackwater gear review from 2004. http://www.blackwaterusa.com/btw2004...1101frank.html I like the twin CamelPak pouches :D shown in PIX in this BW review. |
We've used it...been a matter of "shooter's choice". Are you going to pay out of pocket, or is the employer/USG paying??? BLUF- It works, but so do many others -at far less cost. Found a lot of folks wanting Crye because they've seen our boys wearing it...weigh it out.
short hijack> NDD/KGoerz; remember when all that you needed was a plate up front?? (or in back depending on who was going in with you:eek: !) Now there's no way a troop will even sit in a base camp without full-pro...even helmets!! joking aside, As long as lives are saved it's a good thing...just as long as they don't get their retard on and have 'em wearing the k-pots/vests on jungle patrol - like Ranger school was awhile back... Iraq/Af ain't the only war going. salud 1-0 |
Crye Armor
1-0
Not looking to pay out of pocket.. :boohoo Just looking to see if any QPs have used the "stuff". CYRE Gear seems really "nice". But like you think.. God the cost.. Just look at the cost of their "BDU's" If I was getting some armor from Cyre.. It would be someone else's pocket. :D More the employer/USG paying for it. Just looking to see if the CRYE Armor "rides" good, holds up good, ETC. The attachment points are made of "plastic". Just wondering if they "lock" good or do they "pop-off" or unlock during daily movements. Not looking to get it.. just asking |
RGR, guess the plastic pieces look like they could be a problem if you were in it for extended periods w/various accoutrements attached - especially if that involves riding in a vehicle where you are leaning against something, bumping along etc...Can't help you there, but it was good to go for short, intense periods of dismounted movement - but the time moving to/and on target was always pretty short.
YMMV 1-0 |
1-0,
How did it do when you guys shot it? Don't deny it...:munchin |
MM, do you know the biggest size head the Crye shooter's cap accomodates? I'm somewhere between a 7-5/8 and an 8. "One size fits all" doesn't, and I'd like to be sure.
Thanks, -Chris |

Vehicle thing is what I'm looking at. With equipment, Attachements, ETC. Whether in a GMV, HiLux or whatever. Just wondering about the "whole" set-up. But thanks.. It helps. Like NDD ask.. Round test?? Any good?? Also how did it "ride"?? |
NDD/Mtn G;
good, pertinent question on taking a "hit" vice regular wear...esp as relates to the effect on ancillary pieces...while the ballistic pro is GTG from a small arm hit...attachment points may not hold up for follow-on action depending on where hit, spalling effect and if the attachment points get cracked blown off etc. this doesn't effect velcro vests the same way... additionally, without direct experience on the following comment> I'd think CLOSE exposure to blasts such as IED/RPG, etc could possibly screw it up (plastic attachment points) to the point of being useless as intended kinda like a sling attached by a fastex buckle, throw a radio on it and it cracks, your SOL for the sling if you're on the move...I think this could possibly happen to the system we're discussing as well - just don't have hard/fast evidence on it. salud, 1-0 BTW, I'd never intentionally damage issued gear, just to ensure it performed as advertised. LOL |
