Respectfully from the peanut gallery... This doesn't appear to be an issue of religion, it's about the financial management practices of a sovereign state (as previously mentioned). Regardless of opinions on Catholicism or whether the church should have its own state, it does, and it's expected to manage its funds properly. In addition to secretive finance related documents other secrets worth keeping probably relate to Papal security and diplomatic efforts underway, similar to any other country.
