It hasn't been mentioned, so I'll tell you that a viable tactic for Fall turkey is to set up a tree stand along a known route they travel.
I know it seems silly, but, with a bow, being above eye level can be quite helpful. I've been busted in a ground blind drawing before, where, in a tree stand, I've gotten to full draw without a problem. Be sure to actually practice this shot, though. A turkey's kill zone for a bow is small enough broadside, let alone quartering away and above. Happy hunting. rwd |

It's almost that time again...
Has anyone discovered any new toys to take with them on any upcoming hunts? I acquired a bolt action .22 mag, and I'm anxious to take it out. Holds a decent enough group at 150yds with the V-Max 30 grain rounds. http://www.hornady.com/store/22-WMR-30gr-VMAX/ If I can find them, I'd like to give the 45 grain critical defense loads a chance as well. http://www.hornady.com/store/22-WMR-...tical-Defense/ This year I'm going to try a mix of the "bust 'em up" method and the "sit your ass down" method. I'll sit and enjoy the morning for a couple hours while fighting the Z monster, then traipse through the forest for a while. Great way to clear the head out of all the cobwebs. I'll be praying for all you fellas who won't have the opportunity to enjoy the woods this fall (not CONUS woods anyway). Good luck to everyone headed out! |
