Very reliable indeed. As you know, it's accuracy is affected adversly by the rear site mounted on the (shit, what is it in English?) top "slide"? thus moving ever so slightly to the left and right.

Have a good weekend

Hoepoe

Many of the folks I work with now have a new gas tube which incorporates rails for mounting of a Red dot. Have seen both Trij style reflexes and Eotechs.

Team Sergeant,

I think he is talking about something like These.
(top 2 pics)

Blue Press a.k.a the Dillion Precision Catalog used to carry something similar to them you replaced the gas tube with a gas tube that had picatinny rails machined into the top.

IIRC it was only for the AK47 or AK74 I don't know how interchangeable the Galil and AK parts are so....

Team Sergeant 06-07-2004 23:28

Your Google is strong.

Great link and now I understand how it looks.

The only downfall is that the gas tube is always "loose". I've yet to see tight or locked down gas tubes.

Guess I'd have to shoot one with the rail and aimpoint before passing judgement.

Exactly what SJ posted.

Im stateside at the moment, and perhaps am changing AO's but Im sure my favorite Doc has been seeing these on a daily basis. Perhaps he could give his thoughts on them.

Im thinking that the AK mount is something that everyone ought to have just in case your company shirks on money and you end up using "Local Purchase" weapons LOL

Ok, enough about the Galil and AK, what about the poster??

LOL

I know you're an Angeleno, and an attorney to boot, so you probably can't even have a Seecamp .32. :D I didn't want you to feel all left out, so here you go:

Guys...

The doobywakkythingy at the front of the bipod is a fence cutter, but can also be used as a bottle opener.

Bet you didn't know it was called a doobywakkythingy!

G'day / Howzit / Shalom Hoepoe! Thanks for the link.

Let me put it this way.

If you cannot legally strap a pistol on your leg as you go about your personal business in your own community, you live in lib land.

In my opinion, Galil rifles are craptastic. The only thing worse would be no rifle at all. Galils are worse than that shoot around the corner thing looks.

Edit to add - The ones I see every day don't look anything like Joes. Nice looking weapon Joe.

G 06-24-2004 20:16

Thank you for the "welcome aboard" gents.

I posted under "G" at Socnet, but this site would not accept a name under three letters, hence Gee.

Looking forward to doing lots of reading.

I carried the R5 as my PW while serving in the SA Police. The R5 is a product-improved version of the short Galil (Glilon), with the full size rifle being the R4.

As with every weapon, it had its issues, but for close range work, the slight movement of the dust cover was not an issue. It is heavy for it's size though (much heavier than an M4 for example), but I was mostly in a patrol car and sometimes in a chopper, so I seldom had to worry about the weight of the thing.

As with anyone who has been issued with a weapon they feel is less than perfect (and who does feel that they have the perfect rifle?) - we bitched and moaned for a short while and of course that did no good - so eventually we shut up, trained hard and became good at using it!

Take Care...

G
