Another Rose Bowl for us. Will be interesting to see who we get. Ohio State? Georgia? I'd prefer LSU, but I think they're going to the Sugar Bowl. :munchin

My bet is OSU and LSU in the "championship" game. I think you will draw Georgia RL, and that will be a very good football game! OU vs USC would work as well.

Let me just throw this out there. I can make a case for LSU and Virginia Tech to go to the National Championship Game (and I don't even like VT...so it's not just team bias here).
Look at it this way: VT is 11-2. Not only did it win it's conference's division, it won it's conference championship as well. It's two losses this year came to Boston College (which it avenged in the ACC Title Game on Saturday) and LSU in Week 1. OSU and Georgia shouldn't get the nod simply because they sat on their keisters this weekend (UGA because they couldn't even win their division let alone their conference and OSU because they didn't play in the Big 10 Championship game because there IS no Big 10 Championship game...granted, not their fault, but also shouldn't count FOR them in this case either). OU has beaten Missouri (twice) and Texas (the only two that are in the rankings right now). Meanwhile, VT beat Clemson, Virginia and BC (one more ranked team than OU has beaten). Again, not OU's fault that they didn't play more ranked teams, but that's just the way it was this season. So, since VT won their conference championship game (unlike UGA), actually played in more games than OSU, and beat more ranked teams than OU (the other conference champion in the mix besides LSU), VT should get a rematch with LSU for all the marbles. Tooting the Delaware horn: In the semi finals of a sport settled on the field!
Imagine a playoff involving all these Division 1 teams: 1. Ohio State (50) 11-1 1,578 2. LSU (11) 11-2 1,519 3. Oklahoma (1) 11-2 1,423 4. Georgia (1) 10-2 1,421 5. Virginia Tech (1) 11-2 1,380 6. USC 10-2 1,346 Hell even a SIX game two week playoff would generate more cash than the school admins would know what to do with! Think they might sell out the horseshoe and make a mint of tv revenue for OSU vs USC? LSU vs VT rematch in Baton Rouge? Play the championship on New Year's day in the bowl of your choice (rotate yearly). You can leave the bowl system intact and eliminate this ridiculous four games played each day leading up to the "championship" game. Christ is it that hard????? "I can't see the forest because of all these damned trees!!!" |

SEC 5-2 in the Bowl games.
Mississippi State University beat Central Florida. Georgia really taught Hawaii how SEC teams play. Oregon really beat up South Florida. Go Ducks Now we get to watch LSU really pound Ohio State!!!! clapdoc sends. |
What the hell happened to OU last night? They looked like a team that didn't belong. Sorry, Holly. :boohoo
I completely misread how WV would approach this game. I thought they'd be too distracted by R-Rod's departure to show up. I was sure wrong about that. Hawaii won't play another mainland bowl game for 3 years. They were out of their element and looked like a high school team. Time to go back to the Hula Bowl.... USC played like a team possessed. I like Pete Carroll and think he's one of the best coaches out there. Michigan played out big for Carr, though it was too little too late. Even after beating Florida, that doesn't take away the fact they lost to App. State. Air Force showed that they're one-dimensional after they lost their quarterback. Look for him to be working a weather station at the south pole after he graduates. Missouri proved they belong in the top 10. They beat a good Arkansas team that couldn't pull it together and rested on their heels after beating LSU last month. I'm intrigued by the Orange Bowl tonight. Good thing I have a 40 inch TV. That's the only way Kansas' coach will fit the screen. :D |

This makes four years in a row that this has happened to us in the bowl games. Uggh...WV played a good game. Holly <---sniff, sniff. |
And something to dearly miss
"This win was for Lloyd, and for Bo, and for the Big Ten, and even for Tom Brady. This win was for smashmouth, for 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust, for the "laser, rocket arm," and even for big uglies. Michigan is moving on now, to a shiny new future with a smiling new coach. But before he left -- before Lloyd Carr disappeared into the balmy Florida night -- he gave all Michigan fans something to remember.
And something to dearly miss. " Michigan 41 - Florida 35 Eric Adelson ESPN The Magazine L. Carr, the example of a true Michigan man. GO BLUE |
JMI,
Thanks for taking my ribbing, after the last few Duck games I had nothing to dispute your Oregon-South Florida pick until it was about half over. Note that I'm not brave enough to post picks. |
