So much for "Deeds not Words" when it came to his discussion of navigations skills.:D As I recall, whenever we ran into him, we muttered amoungst ourselves "Weeds not Words"!

COL Jack- it wouldn't happen to have been the Plum Point Bar that the VAD grounded on was it? Since it shifts a bunch depending on currents (New London Bar does the same) You really have to watch the channel markers.

So then, IS that a quote from a well-known book? I've never read said book...the story was actually told to me by a 20th Group guy.

Just found this thread and had a long lengthy laugh at some old memories...here's one I always liked from a recon element:

Forced In, Left Out

In the day, Morse Code (AIMC) students were the most physically prepared for Phase I, due in part of the Cadre's PT styles. Cadre nicknames were, The Lung, Gazelle, Ironman, etc.

One day, 1SG Bachelor ran us to one of the many Old Ft. Bragg Cemeteries. We began an endless string of flutter kicks. After reaching one..., two..., three... 199. One..., two..., three... 200. We hit the upper teens. 216, 217, 218, etc.

The CO got up from the back row, walked around, knelt beside the 1SG and punched him on the chest yelling, "WAKE UP!"

Class motto, "You can't smoke us, we'll quit first".

"Never trust a man who doesn't drink."

Sticker on the A/3/7 SF Co. SGM's icebox circa '90.

(I think it's a Bogie quote.)

"No more Rambo!" SGM Moskaluk at IMA.

"No black watchcaps!" CSM Ivanov at SWC.

CSM Ivanov?....you've got to be from my time period. He was the CSM when I went through the Q.
